Larch ??

Comerscroft · 10/07/2008 17:54

I have a cousin named Larch (her mother was a bit bats).

Larch has a daughter whom she named Willow, (which is more reasonable, I think).

Willow has just had a little girl and is determined to continue the tree theme with a selection of Ebony, Maple, Linden or Poplar.

My suggestions of Cherry, Hazel, Laurel and Apple were dismissed out of hand.

Any suggestions?

I misread Larch as Lurch

Thanks, everyone--these are great suggestions which I will pass on to Larch and Willow.

It looks as though Linden may be the front runner, but out of your suggestions, personally I do like Lilac, Rowan, Cypress and Acacia.

Acer is one that hadn't occurred to me, partly because Acer is the make of my computer!!

Rowan means 'little red one'

Tnoog · 10/07/2008 18:44

I know a female Rowan

She has gorgeous red hair.

filthymindedvixen · 10/07/2008 18:41

I know, I just get fed up with people saying ''oh tis a boy's name, look at Rowan Atkinson '' and suggesting Rowanna.

Sigh, I'll fight my corner for my fictional daughter

Cedar?

filthymindedvixen · 10/07/2008 18:35

Linden is pretty.... Buddleah?? oh no, that's horrid!

Laurel?

TheRedQueen · 10/07/2008 18:34

Lilac?

Hebe? (OK, more a shrubby plant but still on the garden theme)

I think Larch is lovely.

filthymindedvixen · 10/07/2008 18:33

no, Rowan doesn't need a girl's version. Because it is a girl's name. Though it can be a boy's name too.

I love tree names (deffo old hippy here)

I had to be firmly disuaded from calling ds1 Oak [pg hormones]

StressTeddy · 10/07/2008 18:26

I love, love the name Acer - but I've only known it to be used for a boy

rosealbie · 10/07/2008 18:22

That's funny filthymindedvixen, to me Rowan is a boys name (ds's name) but I do have a friend with a girl called Rowan too.

We have a bit of a tree theme going as well with dd's name, and I love a lot of the suggestions. Perhaps I am just an old hippy as well!

Tnoog · 10/07/2008 18:18

I like this idea and love the name Larch.

How about Plum or Honeysuckle?

StressTeddy · 10/07/2008 18:16

Just realised why u said that - hadn't seen Ivy earlier on. Thought I was the first say it
Sorry babe

filthymindedvixen · 10/07/2008 18:13

Rowan.
Sigh, I wanted Rowan but I had two boys....and in my head it is a girl's name.

claricebeansmum · 10/07/2008 18:13

Ooo. Off to pedant's corner Stress!

StressTeddy · 10/07/2008 18:11

Ivy - not quite a tree but still gardenish

UnquietDad · 10/07/2008 18:11

As long as your surname is not Redwood.

ButterflyMcQueen · 10/07/2008 18:07

Clematis
Nemesia

bogie · 10/07/2008 18:06

UnquietDad that made me laugh out loud

Boco · 10/07/2008 18:05

I know two girls named after trees called Rowan and Tilia.

Nice but I always think that Tilia sounds like a very very tiny bone in the ear.

My nickname used to be Larch - still is with certain friends.

claricebeansmum · 10/07/2008 18:02

Holly

Ivy

Leilandii (sp?)
No not sure that would be good everyone would hate her
