What does everyone think of it? My gran was Jean, which I don't like so much, but is Jeanie sweet?

Don't know if we're having a boy or a girl, btw, but the boy's name is sorted already .

It was on my list but I only had boys! Strangely my granny was christened Jeannie but called Jean and my Mum was christened Jean but is called Jeannie. i think it is overdue for a revival and i think it is nice to use Scottish names for girls too, it seems more common up here to give boys Scottish names but not girls, don't really know why.

JentlyDoesIt · 08/07/2008 20:34

I love it - DP's gran was Jeannie-Hill and I loved it. Really pretty name.

PuppyMonkey · 08/07/2008 20:28

If you have Jeannie, she will have to have light brown hair - like in the song...

frankiesbestfriend · 08/07/2008 20:25

Much prefer it to Holly, btw, and with one n not two.

Would be a lovely tribute.

frankiesbestfriend · 08/07/2008 20:23

Gorgeous name

Not old fashioned at all, imo. Sounds really original but not too 'out there', and timeless I reckon.

ja9 · 08/07/2008 20:20

sorry, really don't like it. agree it's sweet version of jean and nice for granny etc, but

jeanie... genie... lamp... just can't get past that.

I thinks its a lovely name. My gran is called Jean.

pgwithnumber3 · 08/07/2008 20:10

I know a baby Jeanie and she is absolutely scrumptious. So yes, go for it!

kitkat9 · 08/07/2008 15:09

I am Scottish and I do realise how Scottish it sounds! But it was my lovely wee granny's name, and she died last year, and think it would be a nice tribute, Just concerned about it being too old fashioned.

are you scottish? I like it but it does automatically make me think of 'pair wee jeannie, she's lookin awfy thin' if you are not scottish you prob don't know what I am talking about so feel free to ignore

Nancy66 · 08/07/2008 11:50

I love it. I really like Jean too. Very sweet.

Well I love Holly because that's my dd's name!! Though she wasn't born at Christmas! Mind you her full name is Holly Eve and everyone assumes she was a Christmas baby.

janeite · 07/07/2008 19:01

I like Holly too!

Kbear · 07/07/2008 18:56

I LOVE Jeanie. I wanted to called DD that but DH wouldn't have it. I had a favourite Auntie Jean and wanted to name DD after her.

kitkat9 · 07/07/2008 18:51

oooh, really? Am pleased it's getting the thumbs-up. Didn't really like it at first but am coming round to it - hadn't thought of spelling it with 2 'n's, that's nice too.

Another question - i'm due on Xmas Day - would Holly be too corny? I really do like it.

I like it. It's classic but quirky, and really very pretty.

Lastyearsmodel · 07/07/2008 18:40

Jeanie is completely lovely - I would have chosen it for dd but my cousin's daughter is Jean so it felt like it was already in the family. She can be Jean if she likes and Jeanie to her nearest and dearest.

girlandboy · 07/07/2008 18:39

I think it's lovely. Reminds me of "I dream of Jeanie". I loved that programme.

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/07/2008 18:39

yes, better with two ns

TheFallenMadonna · 07/07/2008 18:38

I like Jeanie. I also like the idea of naming children after relatives in a kind of oblique way. DS has the male version of my grandmother's name

wheresthehamster · 07/07/2008 18:38

Love Jeanie. That was one of my names if we ever had a dd4. Spelt Jeannie though.

I like Jeanie a lot (have a bit of a thing for girls' names ending in "Ee")and think it is a very sweet, pretty name - BUT is it rather David Bowie?
