Completely totally stuck on a girls name.

Have posted here before re a baby girls name but we are still so so stuck. Opinions are needed please.

Baby is due in 6 weeks time.

Names we have on our list but nothing concrete are:

Raine- atm is the front runner. Concerned around reactions such as it not being a recognised name, people thinking they’ve misheard eg. Have a daughter who’s name is around 60-70 in latest ONS and is totally solid and recognisable as a name. Slight concerns also around “rain rain go away” and older people thinking it sounds like Lorraine, but not as concerned about both of those as previously.

Zara- has always been up there but just not sure, something isn’t right and we’re not sure what.

Willow- a new name we are considering, ONS popularity puts us off and unsure if we’d still like it in a years time.

Ember- love that it’s autumnal, hate how close to Amber it is and feel they may be correcting people a lot. Also not a fan of Amber. DD name starts with E which also puts us off.

Lola- is it too samey with Lylas Lilly’s Lana etc and the song.

Poppy- no8 on ONS which is v popular for us. Is it too cutesy in older life? Can be shortened which we like to avoid.

and finally for info, if it wasn’t for family use we’d have gone with Sadie. Maybe that’s why we can’t decide because that would have been our name.

any advice, thoughts, opinions welcome.

Alternatives welcome too however I feel like we’ve exhausted all names

Sadie, Poppy, Zara all good.

dnadiscoveryquery · 10/10/2026 18:46

Looking at your older posts op I can see your baby was due the last couple of weeks! What did you have? Hope all went well.

ToadRage · 10/10/2026 18:47

Raine is a lovely and the best out of the options you gave. If you fancy a different spelling I have seen Rein and Rayne.

BitLippie · 10/10/2026 18:57

Raine is beautiful - the real standout from your list.

All names have the capacity for silly piss-taking, even seemingly dull and common names , so the possibility of rain-related teasing wouldn’t put me off at all.

I like Zara, too. It’s elegant and understated.

Sadie is sweet - what about Zadie? The writer Zadie Smith changed her name from Sadie in her teens, apparently.

Not keen on the others.

mynextchapter · 10/10/2026 19:02

here is an alternative from my shortlist that I feel fits with your other choices;

Elora.

think it’s so pretty (and if your choice of Willow had anything to do with the film, Elora was his wife).

Rosieposy89 · 10/10/2026 19:04

What about Kirsty?

Favouritefruits · 10/10/2026 19:07

Zara is nice and not too popular, my friend has a son called ‘Reign’ and gets the mick taken out of him all the time so I wouldn’t do Raine for a girl.

teacup35 · 10/10/2026 19:16

Riann
Persephone (Percy)
Maeve

LinearALinearB · 10/10/2026 19:18

How about Zandra?

ButtercupYellow26 · 10/10/2026 19:24

Lorraine? You wont hear that now.

17caterpillars1mouse · 10/10/2026 19:33

Raine - this is my least favourite from your list, sorry. I can appreciate it as a cute name on a toddler / child but i really wouldnt want to be named Raine. I just wouodnt be able to take myself seriously.

Zara - nice, classy though i think possibly about to trend as i keep coming across it more and more. If you can't have Sadie what about Zadie?

Willow - i think it will date and not sure it's a suit all name, but more so than Raine

Ember - love it, different but not unrecognisable. It has spark. If she hates it sge xan always go by Emmy

Lola - not my style but nice

Poppy - feels a bit 20 years ago to me, but nice enough. May autocorrect to Poopy.

Giraffehaver · 10/10/2026 22:11

How about Zada or Zadie?

Sunbringer · 10/10/2026 22:31

What about Selene or Sorrell or Meredith (nn Merry)? They feel like Sadie-adjacent to me.

YourAmberExpert · 10/10/2026 23:05

Now you mentioned Lorraine I can't unhear it.
Same with Ember/ Amber
Zara makes me think of the shop tbh
What about Saskia or Fleur

@Havanalily1806
Raine - just no. Raine Spencer, - Google her.
Zara - no, it's a global brand now.
Willow - argh
Ember - yes to Amber, no to Ember. She'd be mistakenly called Amber the whole time as well, really boring.
Lola - hard no
Poppy - it's too cutesy as you say - (but shortened to what, Pops?)

As you seem to like slightly goopy, dreamy names - how about Gwyneth or Apple? I actually love Apple for a girls name.

Or Diana, Emerald, Calypso.

purpleblast · 11/10/2026 02:43

Sadie is so much better any these other suggestions

Sally3490 · 11/10/2026 03:07

Selena
Zina
Cora/Cara

I don't like Raine much. Zara is nice. The others are a bit cutesy.

Sally3490 · 11/10/2026 03:08

Anaïs
Freya

Sally3490 · 11/10/2026 03:09

Sylvie

Beautifulsunflowers · 11/10/2026 08:03

Go back to the drawing board!

im not a fan of the names you posted however we all have different tastes so my opinion is by the by!

but you still seem unsure on all the names you have suggested so….there have been some great ideas on here, I would rule out names beginning with E as it’s nice for siblings to have different initials imo.

my suggestions

Lois
Anya
Ruby
Nina
Kate
Tilda
Lucy
Carla
Cara/Zara/Lara
Farah
Niamh
Ruth
Abbie

Never heard of Ember as a name but it's beautiful, I actually love it!

I know an Ember, I hadn't heard of it before either, I love it too...and there's been no suggestions of "dying embers" or anything fire related as suggested in a previous post.

IThinkThereforeIPaint · 11/10/2026 09:00

Others have already suggested it, but I met a baby Raina the other day and liked it.
It gets away from the other associations and from Reign.

addictedtotheflats · 11/10/2026 09:13

I have a Maïa Reine (pronounced Raine) dad is french speaking and Reine means queen in french

Billy47 · 11/10/2026 09:17

What about Ocean, Sage, Wren.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 11/10/2026 09:20

Poppy and Lola are a no from me.
I had a dog named Lola and Poppy is a child’s name. An adult Poppy. No.
Sarah is a solid name. I love Willow and Freya too.
