Worst = Any usual British surname used as a first name e.g. Tyler / Hunter / Mason etc.!
Also any Jaden/Caden or such made-up names…. that never used to exist!

The best names are the traditional ones! Ben / John / James / Tom / Jack etc.

Worst: any version of Kayden, Jayden, Mason, Logan, Alfie, Tommy, Teddy - always highest on sanctions.

I just think if you name your child Tommy and they decide they want to be called Thomas then they can. I can’t understand why nicknames can only go one way! But as the parent you get to name them what you want to call them

I guess because nobody (or barely anyone) is actually going to the effort of changing their name, and it's widely accepted that Thomas can be called Tommy, but Tommy can't just start applying for jobs as Thomas when he's 25 because it's not his name. Widely using a nickname is accepted without question, but lengthening a diminutive version isn't. I use the longer version precisely because I feel like it gives them that choice. Tommy is always going to be Tommy even if he doesn't want to be, Thomas can be Tommy or Thomas, depending on what suits him.

Ha, this is me. I deliberately give them a longer, formal name that they will likely never use in childhood because I feel like I don't know what sort of person they'll grow up to be. So I like them to have options. I'd 100% call a baby Thomas, even if he was going to be known as Tommy for example. Or Frederick for Freddie.

Having said that, I don't object to people calling my kids by their full name, it's just not what gets used most of the time, unless they are in trouble....

I hate when people name their child ie Thomas but want them referred to as Tom / William but only ever call them Billy etc. Just name them what you want to call them.

I can't name one single favourite but I really like Matthew, Adam, Benjamin and Richard.

Worst is Wayne (sounds like whine and the first Wayne I knew was indeed very whiney!) Not fond of Jack (too hard sounding) and Austin (just makes me think of cars).
