Thoughts on Jesse for a boy? DH is pushing for it. I like it but know so many female Jessies/Jessis (often short for Jessica) that it kind of takes away the charm. I feel the same way about Jamie. Meeting too many people with a certain name makes it feel dull.

My cousin's 6ft 4 son is Jesse and he's certainly not wet or feeble

Maybe it's an age or location thing but I've never heard of Jesse as a insult.

Jesse (spelt that way) reminds me of the Biblical Jesse or Jesse James or Jesse from Breaking Bad. I like it and it has a carefree, rugged vibe from the American West.

Jessie (spelt that way) is a girls' name (though it's not especially popular for 2020s babies).

I loved the character too… he had the best character development and ultimately was the only decent one!

Ive come across more Jesses recently so think it’s taking off. I really like it.

I have a Jesse who is a teen. I’ve always had nice comments about it.
Sometimes making appts it’s presumed he is a girl. But it’s not a big deal and I just have to reiterate ‘he, it’s the boys spelling’.
I grew up in the 80s when calling someone a Jessie was a thing, but it’s not a thing now in the SE. They have moved on to far worse I’m sure!

I like the name Jesse, BUT I remember when it was used as an insult, as in 'you are a right Jessie' (effeminate).
And before anyone picks me up on saying being effeminate is an insult, I'm just letting you know what the name meant back in the mists of time when I was young.

I have always liked Jesse for a boy. Am not a fan of Jessie for a girl despite having a few ancestors with the name (been playing on Ancestry a lot). I don't think its common, i have never met one.

cannot stand Jamie that’s a totally different vibe. Jamie is weak. Jesse is a cowboy
I would never use it for a girl though. Jessica is unpleasant to my ears

My son is called Jesse :) we get nothing but compliments on his name, I live in the south west and have never heard of his name being used as an insult. People need to get over that.
we live in a world where anything goes these days and so it should.
if you like it OP go for it, literally doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks :)
