My husband is useless so please help me pick! Would be useful to hear how popular theese names are in the under 4's as a little out of touch!

Ok now they won't be everyone's cuppa but here they are:

Girl
Nicole aka Coco
Alexandra aka Lexi

Boy
Reuben
Xander

Thanks!

Alexandra
Reuben, love this name. Old Testament yes, but like GE says no more Jewish than any other OT name. You wouldn't say "Ooooh Adam, how Jewish".

jellybeans · 22/06/2008 19:30

Alexandra & Xander

greenelizabeth · 22/06/2008 18:54

Reuben no more Jewish than Ethan or Ben or Jacob.

Coco or Reuben.

dizzydixies · 22/06/2008 17:39

I have a dd alexandra known as Lexie

on this list we have Cordelia or Charlotte nn coco too and Reuben nn Rudy for a boy

prefer Lexie spelt with final E though as it is scottish for Sparkling with that spelling

SummerC · 22/06/2008 13:25

Alexandra for a girl. I think the shortening of Nicole to Coco is horrible (sorry, but I do).

Not too keen on either of the boys' names, but Xander is the lesser of two evils. ;)

myredcardigan · 20/06/2008 21:50

Doozie, isn't she Mrs Thierry henry.

I like Alexander/ra

Doozie · 20/06/2008 17:34

Alexandra and Alexander are my vote. Go for the full name, gives the little one more options later on. Also the extra syllable might come in handy when telling off! I would strongly advise against Lexi as the nick name. I caught the train home from school with a girl called Lexi and for 6 years she was hounded by grubby boys chanting sexy lexi at her!! She was stunning, (as yours will be!), which is part of the reason she got so much attention.

I like Nicole, only if it is pronounced with a French accent (that old Renault Clio advert has stuck in my head!). Does anyone else remember that? Or just me?

rolledhedgehog · 20/06/2008 17:03

There is both a Nicole and an Alexandra in Ds's class at school but they are 4/5. Prefer Alexandra of the two.

I know a two year old Reuben but no Xanders. I like Reuben very much.

onelittlelion · 20/06/2008 11:50

I like Xander Reuben surname. Think that's lovely. Is that cheating?

LadyThompson · 20/06/2008 11:46

I think Nicole (Coco) as it's rather underused in comparison with Alexandra

I think Xander over Reuben as I think Reuben belongs to a different culture to mine - nothing against Jewish people AT ALL, might I add! Prefer sound of Xander anyway

nappyaddict · 20/06/2008 09:37

know a few reubens but don't know any of the others. do know a lexi but she's alexei not alexandra.

VictorianSqualor · 20/06/2008 09:35

So what are you going for?

GreenGodess · 20/06/2008 09:23

Thanks all will definately have full names on birth certificates think it is important they have choices.

Would be awful to be Lexi that was a book worm and seriously not sexy!

alaxanda too boyish but not enough boyish
lexi reminds me of dog
like nicole lkove coco, a child in old nusery was called coco she was adorable.
dont really like them for a boy sorry love

VictorianSqualor · 19/06/2008 22:13

Ah, my thread was how many do you know see here but still not one bad comment about the name.
Plus if you call a child Lexi(E) or Xander, they may hate it, at least with the full name they have many choices, DS2 can be Alex, Lex, Alec, Xander, Sandy...etc

allgonebellyup · 19/06/2008 22:12

i love Lexi for a girl..

my son is Lixy !

fortyplus · 19/06/2008 22:08

That's funny - I like Alexandra but thought it would be a bit dated by now. Obviously not the case!

VictorianSqualor · 19/06/2008 22:01

Alexandra/Alexander are great names, but use the full name, they may not suit Lexi/Xander.
I have just had an Alexander, he is 9weeks old, we planned on calling him either Alex or Xander but he suits Lex.

I love the full name Alexander/ra and had some wonderful remarks on a thread about it, in fact probably one of the only baby names threads with no slagging off!!!

fortyplus · 19/06/2008 21:52

Lexi sounds like a porn star.

The others are ok but not my cup of tea.

Nancy66 · 19/06/2008 21:49

I like Coco - but not Nicole and I like Alexandra but not Lexie.

Xander I don't like at all - sounds like a charactr from a video game. Reuben is great.

twosofar · 19/06/2008 21:40

Prefer Coco although dislike Nicole. I know a Coco short for Charlotte which I think is very sweet.
To me, Lexi sounds like the kind of name a soap star or a Wag would call their child (like Tallulah). Sorry if you are one of the above!

I like both Reuben and Xander but Xander has the edge, although I would always go for Alexander on the birth cert as not keen on an abbreviation for a proper name

Jojay · 19/06/2008 21:02

Love Coco and Xander

Heated · 19/06/2008 20:43

Love Alexandra but not Lexie as Lex Luther/Sexy Lexie just comes to mind. Coco imo is a better nn. I don't think clown but Chanel.

Again love Alexander but not Xander. Re Reuben, s'okay but none of my Jewish friends get the sudden surge of popularity in this name.

devonsmummy · 19/06/2008 20:28

wanted Lexie when pregnant with DS 18mths ago but is now really popular and he was a boy so didn't use it anyway!

Don't like Coco - how about Cece?

Like Xander but getting rather popular not keen on Reuben

chandellina · 19/06/2008 20:12

love Coco. i would definitely use that and it's on my list if i go on to have a girl (expecting boy now) unless my best friend beats me to it.

I'm not a huge fan of the boy names though. maybe you could use Alexander and then have room to play around with the different ways to shorten it.
