I don’t think my baby will ever have a name

Please help!

I have been a long time lurker but have signed up for some help. My baby boy is due in 6 weeks and we have no names. I have scrolled through thousands of names and I think they are now all becoming meaningless but it’s making me
panic about naming our little boy. Any names I do like, DH doesn’t and vice versa. We both want a name we both like.

DH likes Apollo and Dawson???
I like Jasper, Felix and August.
Both would like something less common (I know my choices are more popular at the moment but just giving an idea of sound / style I like)

Any suggestions are welcome - we probably won’t use the names I’ve given as we don’t agree on them but opinions on those welcome
too.

Thank you

See that's better! I knew you had it in you! Now you've cheered up have a wonderful Saturday! 😜

Wasn't miserable, just deadpan. You too!

If I had a boy I’d call him Harris

Isn't that slang for arse?

@Liljules , Are you feeling OK? You seem to be spouting Beaulleaux. Grin

Liljules · 21/02/2026 11:46

You do know occasionally on mumsnet people can have friendly banter? Its called humour. Try it you might like it! 😁

Ah well each to their own aye!😁 you say tomato I say tomatoex!🤣🤣

You'll find that you'll be alone with the tomatoex.

We were in a similar position OP, the only name we both really liked was a top 3 name and that bothered me in itself. We went with it in the end and I’m pleased we did now (and more pleased that where we live it dropped out of the top 10 the year after he was born!)

One of DH’s front runners was August. I vetoed it, but I have to admit I sometimes regret not giving it more thought as I think Gus is a cute nickname for a baby/toddler.

We also liked Zander but MN told me we couldn’t possibly as it’s a fish, but then I’ve seen it suggested several times since 🤷🏻‍♀️

At this moment in time Dawson might seem like a tribute to recently deceased James Van Der Beek for a certain demographic!

Zander is generally Xander and an abbreviation of Alexander.

@Liljules , Beaux is dreadful. Beau is pretty bad, but Beaux is a plural adjective and risks being pronounced as Box.

Skybluepinky · 21/02/2026 11:00

As you can’t decide they aren’t the right choices, look through a name book to see if there is anything you can agree on.

TikTokker · 21/02/2026 10:26

I like Atticus, Monty and Asa at the moment

Nichelette · 21/02/2026 10:23

Boy names are hard. We ended up with 2 🙃. Ours are Oliver & Casper - obviously not bothered about popular names here 😅. I really like Xander now. Harrison is nice too but we know someone who used it.

JuliettaCaeser · 21/02/2026 08:52

I would swerve those Greek god type names - what if Apollo / Atlas / Caesar etc is tiny and bookish? That’s a hell of name to carry off. Get your DH to imagine introducing himself to a new group with the name. If he feels even a smidge of nervousness that’s your answer.

Whydidyougothere · 21/02/2026 08:37

OP, my youngest was nearly a month old when we finally found a name we could agree on.
Now the name we did choose, although we both 'liked' it during my pregnancy neither of us loved it and it was dropped. We got desperate 3 weeks into baby being here and that was the only name we could agree on. It was 6 years ago now and my DP now really loves the name, it's a lovely name and my DC is exactly the same child they would be no matter what their name!
So you still have lots of time! We even asked the midwives to try and name DC for us we struggled that much!

DomPom47 · 21/02/2026 08:29

Atlas or Leo

ThisZanyPinkSquid · 21/02/2026 08:27

Names we had were

Casper
Dexter
Harris
Declan
Teddy

Jok77 · 21/02/2026 07:57

I found boys' names so difficult. We chose Noah thinking it was normal but unpopular- how wrong could we be? Still loves his name though!
In 27 years of teaching, I have never met/taught anyone with one of your listed names.
Some possible suggestions...
Benediction
Fergus
Gregory
Hugo
Ivan
Joel
Jonah
Laurence
Miles
Tonics

PersephoneParlormaid · 21/02/2026 07:43

August is too close to Augustus Gloop for me. You’ve got to think about how the name could be used to tease/bully a child in school.

Besmartin · 21/02/2026 07:39

Arlo – modern, gentle, and stylish (feels like Felix/Jasper but trendier)
Otis – vintage-cool with a strong sound (Felix vibes but bolder)
Milo – soft, friendly, but modern like Dawson
Ezra – strong but gentle, works well with Apollo-style names
Leo – classic, bold, but warm
Atlas – mythological like Apollo, but also naturey like Jasper
Rowan – nature-inspired but modern and strong
Silas – slightly mythic, stylish, and softer than Apollo
Theo – classic and sweet but modern
Elio – similar vibe to Felix, but has that bold Apollo feel

LlynTegid · 21/02/2026 07:36

My opinion is that a middle name should be one that honours or remembers an ancestor, perhaps a loved grandparent.

Jade247 · 21/02/2026 07:34

I’ve got Euan and absolutely love it 🥰

Lollylavender · 21/02/2026 07:22

How about

Caspar
Orson
Roman
Quentin
Raphael

Mumofgirls2017 · 21/02/2026 07:19
