Someone who loved Judge Dread was going to call child Dread. Thankfully was persuaded otherwise.

Someone was asking about Busby on here the other day, I thought that was pretty bad. There are a couple of other infamous ones on here but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

Busby was a bird.

I used to know a Kaiser, but the family were not originally from the UK (or any part of Europe) and it was pronounced "Kezza".

Oh please let that be true Russell Sprout😂 Also on the subject of nicknames. I heard on the radio about a guy nicknamed Aladdin at work. His real name was Matt Ryder. It really tickled me for some reason.

Unless we know the same people there are at least two boys with this name around. My first thought was the same as yours when I heard it. Perfectly normal name, just why with the spelling though? My daughter has a very ‘common’ short name yet the registrar ran through a list of other spellings she’s had for said name - most of them elongated and made no sense!

If I was born a boy I would have been called Gilbert, thank the Lord i was born a girl and my Mum was around to veto Dad's preferred names which were Margaret and Frances. Margaret isn't so bad cos it can be shortened to Maggie which I like, but I can't stand Frances or Fran for that matter.

I've mentioned this before, its not the actual names that are awful individually, but I think to name your 3 sons Ronnie, Reggie and Frankie is a poor choice.

I wouldn't choose it myself, but I actually quite like Soul - it's 'out there' but in a cool way. Unless you used it as a middle name, which she broadly went by, but with the actual first name of something like Rachel or Rebecca. R. Soul Smith sounds much less cool!

Lilith is a lovely name, and dates back to prebiblical times.

I've never met a Gaylord, but for the few that are around, that must be a difficult name to carry well.

I came across twins called Castor and Pollux Gollihoff but I did find them in 18th century resources whilst researching something historical. They're not still around!

I know someone who has kids called Courtney and Cobain.

Honey Raze. First name isn’t horrendous but paired with her middle name sounds like a stripper but she is generally called ‘Hun’ by everyone. All I think is ‘you ok huuuunn?!’

A friend of DS has a brother called Wolfgang. Which actually I can’t work out is mad or pretty cool.

Adorabella-Rainne. Just why? I mean can be shortened to Bella but still.

There’s a boy in DDs year called Patch

I can’t stand the name Reggie. We know of one and he’s an absolute menace and his little best mate is called Ronnie. I feel sorry for the teacher of that school intake year. We also know of a couple who actually have twin boys called Ronnie and Reggie

My dad went to name me moonbeam over 50 years ago, the registrar told him to get a grip and go outside and pick another girl name!

We need a lot more registrars like this nowadays!

I know many names which have one meaning in the language of their origin and rude/ unpleasant meaning in a different language (modern or ancient).

My mother was born on Valentine’s Day and she had Valentine as her middle name. She hated the name but fortunately it was her second name. Her first name was Beryl which she didn’t really like either.

My grandpa was called Valentine (I personally like it), and his wife Beryl (much worse). Not that odd but interesting your mum has those names!
