Someone who loved Judge Dread was going to call child Dread. Thankfully was persuaded otherwise.

Let's go and visit him together, so we can ask him in person... I'll see you when you get there.

I reckon the grown up Koolio will be very popular and have loads of mates 😁

DD2 went to school with a girl called Beau. ( I love the name and at one point it was in the running for DSs middle name. DH sadly talked me down from naming him Teddy Beau Surname. But he would absolutely suit that name - massive regret for not digging my heels in)

Mungo is Hugh Grant's middle name.

It is not Hugh Mungo surely not 🤣🤣🤣

Namechangerage · 12/02/2026 15:07

A word spelled backwards - think Nirvana = Anavrin / Heaven = Neveah / Divine = Enivid

one of these is actually real!

Wiseplumant · 12/02/2026 15:02

Beverley. I just hate that name. Her second name is Alison, but I don't want to hurt her feelings by asking if I can use Alison instead.

PuppiesProzacProsecco · 12/02/2026 15:02

Thank fuck I didn't have a teen pregnancy as I planned to call any baby I had either Heaven, Angel or (this one is the worst/best) Juanita Isabella Venus-Maria but Jazz for short. Brucey bonus to anyone who can get the trashy novel authors connections...

And for anyone wondering, I didn't consider the possibility of having a boy. Only girls allowed.

Bilbobagginsbollox · 12/02/2026 15:00

Beau for a girl probably bothers me more then it should.

2 of those are perfectly normal names.
1 is more likely to be a surname but sort of works as a first name.

Travis is very common as a male first name among a certain age group in Canada. I know two, both men in their thirties. Chad was obviously trendy here a decade earlier, I know three, all men in their forties.

Needmorelego · 12/02/2026 14:58

@ridl14 my imaginary twins are Sebastian and Octavia 😁
I have no idea why.

CallMeDaphne · 12/02/2026 14:58

Diana Ross called one of her kids Chudney.

They may be 2 ordinary names but they're foul. The third one I guess you'd have to be a certain age to get it.

What's "foul" about them?
They clearly aren't to your taste but they're just names.
I have no idea of your reference to people of a certain age getting it. I have no clue what "it" is.

I was going to be called Wilhelmina.
DH pushed hard for trinity. We watched the matrix when I was pregnant and he's catholic

Also think Wilhelmina is quite fabulous. Not one I would use but I'd love it on someone else.

My son's name is a bit Marmite because it's not English, but it's beautiful, beautiful meaning, traditional and family name. Suits him perfectly.

Some of my more out there choices that we didn't use are Basil and Octavia.

Lionel would be the name if we had another one.

Not really fun if you consider its meaning in Cockney rhyming slang 😳

My daughter was at school with children called Digby, Angelfaith, and Silvercup.

Those sound like my little pony names- Angelfaith and Silvercup

Was Blessing Nigerian?

If I’d been a boy I was going to be named Ernest Hagar, (after my two grandads). I’m all kinds of grateful I am female. It’s not ‘the worst’ name out there, but it would have been a bold choice, even in 1964! 😂🥴

(No hate to all the Ernies/Hagars out there 👌🏻)

I actually think Ernest is adorable!

Binky (as in the MiC person) is a nickname though, her name is Alexandra, her parents called her Binky when she was a baby and it just stuck.

My Grampy had a similar nickname that was given as a baby and stuck for all his 92 years.
Everyone called him by that name but everyone also knew it wasn't his actual name !

I thought that too.
I'd be muttering "Stay Gold" all the time around poor Pony !!

I knew an adult whose nickname was Pony. Apparently he was, quite literally, hung like a horse. I never saw this in the flesh, so to speak, but had it on good authority that he was. The really strange thing was everyone called him Pony and no one thought it odd!

My mum was due on Valentine's Day so her parents planned to call her Valentina! I think that would have been pretty bad. Luckily she was late.

I know a little girl called Valentina. It suits her.

Pony makes me think of Ponyboy Curtis in SE Hinton's "The Outsiders".

I thought that too.
