Someone who loved Judge Dread was going to call child Dread. Thankfully was persuaded otherwise.

The worst I ever heard was Lucifer.

I know someone who called their son Boy.

I didn't think anything could be worse than calling a child Sonny, but here we have it.

Someone was asking about Busby on here the other day, I thought that was pretty bad. There are a couple of other infamous ones on here but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

There was a fantastic ps1 game called bubsy 3d🤣🥴

Very old name that comes from Jewish mythology. Adam's first wife.

Also foremother of Jadis in the Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe.

Ah there's a good one. Has anyone ever come across a Jadis?

😂😂Named after thumping great lump of floating iron!

I mean to be fair there are tons of ships with names that can also be human, and that are also very pretty. Adriana, Coral, Iona, Marina, Pearl... There have been thousands of ships and they are deliberately given attractive names. I could understand if it was 'Phantasy of the Seas' or something. That's a tricky one to pull off.

WallE2026 · 12/02/2026 18:11

Tempest.

VeryQuaintIrene · 12/02/2026 18:10

Two from the US - Mary Kuntz, a professor of Women's Studies, and Randy Marion, name of a Ford dealership with a massive sign. Always makes me smile when I drive past it.

There was a weight-lifter years ago called Precious McKenzie. He was born in South Africa under apartheid, moved to the UK and lived in Bristol, now he lives in New Zealand. He is very diminutive, perhaps that's why he was named Precious.

I think Hunter is a brave choice with the shortened version of hunt being an easy slip up…
The same with Dexter when shortened.

I know someone named Nazi...

I was surprised to meet an Adolf in Germany - I would have really thought that that was an unpopular choice (this was in the early 90s and I suppose he was mid 20s so born mid 60s).

Someone I know called their firstborn Spike. She went on to have more boys and I think they got "sensible" names like Jack.

Only 1 N in the ship 😁

I’ve not seen a lot of names that are objectively awful, as opposed just not to my taste, but I’ve met a Jurnee and an Anakin recently both of which did make me internally wince.

I also briefly met a little Precious once which isn’t that bad but was quite funny as her behaviour certainly wasn’t precious at the time

Woodwalk · 12/02/2026 18:00

I'm struggling to get past the first page - Valentina and Orianna/Oriana are both beautiful Italian names. MN is really another planet.

Blueysothermother · 12/02/2026 17:57

Last year my daughter had children in her class called Excel and Peculiar and this year one called Tesla. Sadly not a fan of any and imagine the poor child called peculiar 😔

ArcticBells · 12/02/2026 17:55

I don’t think you can get a lot worse than Apple

Sogfree · 12/02/2026 17:54

I've taught sisters Porsche and Ferrari.
I've also taught a Kalel - dad was obsessed with Superman.

I went to school with a girl called Kelli. Her sister was called Terri. Their surname was Kelly.

Jesse is super popular though for a boy these days, would have been fine? More popular than Jessica for a girl which is a little dated.

Not where we live. I like Jessica. It's rare rather than dated (as is my name, which is not Jessica).
