What do you think of my list, 2nd boy due!

elfisheyes · 05/02/2026 06:47

Our 2nd boy is due in a few weeks and really struggling to settle on a name, and one we agree on!
I love slightly less common names.. Being half Polish I’d also like it to be pronounced easily by my Polish family but doesn’t have to be a direct Polish version name.
Our first son is Zachary (nns Zach/Zachy).
Here’s the list- honest opinions much appreciated! :

Tobias
Elias
Elian
Caspar/Casper
Oskar
Fabian
Leon
Benjamin

Any other ideas also so welcome, thank you x

Leon or Leo

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 02/03/2026 14:23

Polish heritage factored in here too

We had the following shortlist

Adam
Daniel
Aleksander
Kacper
Isaac
Jakub
Franciszek (nn Franek)
Fabian
Gabriel

Thanks again all! X

@IAmNotPrepared Wonderful you were trying to factor in Polish heritage too! What other names were on your short list, in case there are any more ideas we can still come across?

Our tastes are very similar Op! Three of your four were on our shortlist, and we were also factoring in Polish heritage. Casper Sebastian was a front runner for quite a while for us, so I agree with Regal that it’s a solid option - Zachary and Casper sound great together! Great list to choose from

RegalDiamondMonster · 26/02/2026 22:10

Of your new list I'd go for Caspar with Sebastian as a middle name (I like Sebastian but not Seb).

Otis and Reuben are perfectly respectable and trendy names, just not my cup of tea- but I would spell Reuben like that rather than Ruben.

elfisheyes · 26/02/2026 21:51

Thank you all! There are 2 more names my husband’s now added to the mix (the first ones below- that I also like) so the shortlist has been narrowed down now to:

Sebastian
Ruben
Casper
Otis

Still can’t decide but a few weeks to go so hoping of those that a front runner comes through 😅

From your list I like Tobias, Caspar/Casper and Oskar. (I know a young Oskar with this spelling, and it has not been a problem for him.)

YourWinter · 23/02/2026 10:01

Tobias is my favourite from your list. I really dislike Fabian, Caspian and Elias / Elias. Oskar is ok but he’ll spend his entire life saying “Oskar with a k”.

I have a common name with a letter changed to a less common spelling and I have spent my (nearly) 70 years hating my parents for trying to be cool.

When a first vowel is followed by a single consonant, which is followed by Y, the rule is that the first vowel is long (joe-bee)

If there is a double consonant before the Y then the first vowel is short (jobby).

I am aware of that and I assumed it would rhyme with Toby, my point was only that it looks like a word that to a whole country means turd (in certain accents it would sound a bit like joby, too).

Obviously anyone who likes it should crack on!

Opfestlove · 22/02/2026 15:49

Caspar is the best

NamingNoNames · 22/02/2026 10:06

ˈtəʊbi not təʊ'biː

NamingNoNames · 22/02/2026 10:04

@mathanxiety , how do you think I say it?

Silverbirchleaf · 22/02/2026 03:45

I pronounce Toby as Toe - Bee, but the Bee element is quite short, not long.

mathanxiety · 22/02/2026 00:35

@NamingNoNames

Toby is pronounced toe-bee.

How do you pronounce it?

mathanxiety · 22/02/2026 00:34

Sa11yCinnamon · 20/02/2026 15:21

@NamingNoNames ah thanks, I've never heard it before! But I'd still just see/say jobby

Toby isn't Toe-Bee actually, @TheActualQueen .

lizzielizard · 21/02/2026 17:02

My DFIL was Polish and called Zygmunt - we called our son Ziggy after him. It's a cool name but would 2 Zs in the family matter

TheActualQueen · 21/02/2026 16:15

NamingNoNames · 20/02/2026 15:12

Joby is 'joe-by' not 'jobby' but kids will be kids.

It’s “Joe-Bee” actually.
Rhymes with Toby.

ImFineItsAllFine · 20/02/2026 15:23

Tobias and Benjamin are both really nice, the rest of your list aren't my taste at all I'm afraid.

Other ideas:

Felix
Brandon
Ethan
Jonah

I'm going to guess you don't live in Scotland..?

Cocktailsandcheese · 18/02/2026 07:58

I think Zach and Otis sound great together!

GreyhoundLurcher · 18/02/2026 07:03

Casper

mathanxiety · 18/02/2026 02:32

Caspar or Oskar would be fantastic. Fabian is great too.
