Naming my daughter the same as a cousins childs name

Hi everyone,

We've just had a baby girl and my partner and his family love the name Mia.
Unfortunately my first cousin has a 7 year old daughter with the same name.

Just wondering if it's odd to even consider having the same name for our daughter?

We are not that close to my first cousin, the girls would be second cousins and have different surnames.

TIA
Priya

If it's family that you actually see regularly I'd think it odd. If it's just someone you happen to share more DNA with than the average person but you have nothing to do with then no, not odd at all.

I personally wouldn't use it, but most people wouldn't care.

If you don't see each other much I don't see that it's a problem. You could always ask your cousin how she would feel about it.

Do you love the name Mia? (You didn't mention whether you like it.)

Not a problem, they'll probably never come across each other in later life.

I've literally no idea what any of my parents cousins children are called and probably only seen them at my Grandparents funeral 30 years ago if ever.

Go for it, you're not even that close a kin. Many families have children/cousins/second cousins with the same forename.

Personally, I don't think it's weird at all! It's not like you live next door to each other...and even then, I'd be honored if someone wanted to use either of my daughter's names. :-) :-)
