Thoughts on Jessamy (Jess-a-me). It's 17th Century variation on Jasmine and Jessamine.

Dreadful.

Charlotte120221 · 13/01/2026 13:12

to be honest she'll just end up getting called Jess so easier to just go with Jessica?

LivingTheDreamish · 13/01/2026 02:22

I like it. She can always go by Jess if she wants to keep things simple.

cornbunting · 12/01/2026 23:37

I quite like it, but I'd give it to a fictional character rather than a real person. Write it into a bestseller, OP, if people are more familiar with the name it'll be better received when encountered in real life.

bellocchild · 12/01/2026 23:36

In Frederica, Jessamy is a BOY!

Lightwell · 12/01/2026 23:31

Thirdchildjoy · 12/01/2026 15:32

My initial reaction was it sounded like something out of "Cats".

haha I thought it sounded like a toy from 80s Play School

Lazychains · 12/01/2026 23:31

I really like it. It's definitely a real name I am surprised so few people are aware of it .

She can shorted to Jess or Jessie as well

Barrellturn · 12/01/2026 22:31

I think a jesslyn would be constantly referred to as josslyn. I liked josslyn but my dh said "every day I'm josslyn josslyn" and it put me off.

😂😂😂

Pettenell · 12/01/2026 23:23

I think it's beautiful. An old name not often used, but spelt as it sounds, and with good nn Jess. I know a young woman with this name.

And for those who suggest Jessamy would have a life time of spelling out her name, I think you would be surprised how often someone like me with a very common name, spelt and pronounced in the usual way, has to spell out and correct the pronunciation of my name. This is not a reason to avoid an unusual name!

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 12/01/2026 23:20

It just sounds made up.

SpringBulbsPop · 12/01/2026 23:06

MIL’s extremely posh mate has a daughter with this name. I think it’s a bit ridiculous sounding.

Suspish · 12/01/2026 22:58

Immediately thought ‘Jiminy Cricket’

Wheelz46 · 12/01/2026 22:54

Jessamy Stoddart who portrays Liberty Savage in Hollyoaks comes to mind.

bridezillaincoming · 12/01/2026 22:46

suburburban · 12/01/2026 20:13

Butterfly child

that song is playing in my head now

That’s Jesamine - pronounced Jez-a-mean by The casuals in 1968

Mydadsbirthday · 12/01/2026 22:42

I really like it. I don't know why it's getting so much hate!

Lisanne55 · 12/01/2026 22:39

I like it. There was a Jessamy a few years above me at school and I always thought it was a lovely name.

Definitely not made up or a new name - this was over 40 years ago!

SnowFrogJelly · 12/01/2026 22:35

Love it 🩷

scrivette · 12/01/2026 22:34

It’s a lovely name - Jessemy Stoddart is the only one that I know.

Barrellturn · 12/01/2026 22:31

Dollyfloss · 12/01/2026 21:17

Can I suggest Jesslyn as a possible contender OP? It’s a character in one of my favourite books and I’ve always thought it quite pretty.

I think a jesslyn would be constantly referred to as josslyn. I liked josslyn but my dh said "every day I'm josslyn josslyn" and it put me off.

Giraffehaver · 12/01/2026 22:26

I'm very surprised at the vitriol on this thread. I think it's lovely and far better than Jessica which has the horrible sick sound in the middle.

RegalDiamondMonster · 12/01/2026 22:24

Pretty. I like Jessamine too.

Womaninhouse17 · 12/01/2026 21:54

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 12/01/2026 15:10

First thought, honestly.... is It's not a real name / it's a made up American name.

Edited

All names are made up.

Womaninhouse17 · 12/01/2026 21:53

I like it!

ladygindiva · 12/01/2026 21:37

I love it . I knew one at school so can vouch that it is a name!

Daisy62 · 12/01/2026 21:35

Knew a boy called Jessamy when I was a child. Sounds old fashioned now but I really like it.
