We just can’t find a name we agree on 🤦‍♀️
our original name list:
Cass/Cassie
Juno
Nova
Maya
Remi
Kaia
Kali/Callie
Tess
Wren (ruled out as too popular)

We struggled with the name game while I was pregnant but were sort of half decided on thinking she’d be a Cass or a Kali but neither of them are settling well on her. OH LOVES Shea but only wants to spell it Che which is a hard no from me so back to the drawing board. I love Juno but he’s vetoing. We’ve been round and round in circles for what feels like forever. Please help, mumsnet hive mind! Open to any and all suggestions 🙏

Thea goes with the theme you like? I prefer Calypso to Callie.

Sage, Emmie, Romilly, Elle, Cove?

RosesAndHellebores · 25/11/2025 19:36

Cassandra - Cassie
Calliope - Calli

There are lots of short names that would be better in my opinion:

Anna
Jane
Chloe
May
Petra
Rose
Mary
Marnie
Nina
Flora

Thanks all for the suggestions/rebuttals 😁 interesting that people are saying Wren isn’t popular - I know three off the top of my head whereas have met very few of our other names!
Half the problem is we can’t agree - he loves Eden, Effie, India, Veda and if he had final say would probably call her Nessa. I love Ivy, Ava, really pushed for Artemis but was shut down in no uncertain terms 😅 and if I had final say would call her Astra. She is also one of many (blended family) so lots of names have been used on siblings either as first or middle names, or they sound too similar to use again 🤦‍♀️

Oh she is beautiful congratulations xxx

I also like Wren and I've never met one. Willow, Hazel, Rowan?

Not Kali - Indian goddess of destruction!

HighburyHope · 25/11/2025 19:28

Romy or Zoe?

ColdLittleHeart · 25/11/2025 19:25

I love Callie

Cleo?
Chloe?

Moreteaandchocolate · 25/11/2025 19:18

I like Cassie, Maya (very popular when you include Mia / Mya etc), Kaia, Callie, Tess and Wren (not very popular round us). I think Tess is my favourite.

Nell, Mila, Nia?

User6761 · 25/11/2025 19:15

I've not come across any Wrens at all so I don't think it's overly popular. It's a nice name. Tess is my favourite on your list.

But don't stress - she's only 5 days, you don't need to make a rushed decision. Take a step back, away from the list for a day or two.

It seems you are both drawn to one or two syllable names. That's a good starting point.

FWIW names I like at the moment that may be your style include:
Cleo
Cora
Cara
Darcie
Marnie
Merrin
Seren
Sadie
Vita

GreyhoundGal1 · 25/11/2025 19:10

Do you both agree on wren and the only problem is perceived popularity? Because it's really not that popular, only 128. Maya which you haven't ruled out for instance is much more popular at number 15!

Other options: sage, Skye, eden, Faye, quinn, Sloane, indie, Nellie, Effie

DuchessOfNarcissex · 25/11/2025 19:10

Tess - love it
Cass/Cassie - love Cassie
Juno - ok, a lot to live up to
Nova - not keen
Maya - there are loads of them, meh
Kaia - not keen
Kali/Callie - Callie is ok, Kali is not ok
Remi - dreadful
Wren - dreadful

Fends · 25/11/2025 19:09

Che 🤣🤣 based on that I’d ignore everything DH says and choose whatever name I preferred. I don’t compromise with idiots

HighburyHope · 25/11/2025 19:07

Jess(ie) or Kara?

whistlesandbells · 25/11/2025 19:04

Oh Wren is lovely though. I have not heard this name before - is it really so popular? Lara is also beautiful.

BeaLola · 25/11/2025 19:01

I love Nina, Louisa, Margot, Beatrix/Beatrice, Charlotte, Harriet,

MinnieMountain · 25/11/2025 19:00

@WarrenTofficier mine was going to be Alexandra Minerva if we had a girl.

WarrenTofficier · 25/11/2025 18:56

Lara, there you go you can have my no 1 girls name pick because I didn't get to use it. It would be amazing to think there was a wee lassie out there with it.

MiddleAgedDread · 25/11/2025 18:54

Hmm, I’m not a fan of any of your list I’m afraid! Isn’t Shea a boy’s name? Going with your theme of short names…..
Mia
Cara
Jade
Lara
Esme
Nora
Nina
Ava
Ella
India / Indy
Niamh
Isla
Leah

Arlanymor · 25/11/2025 18:54

Tess is lovely and classic.

Oohh · 25/11/2025 18:53

Cassie, Callie and Cadi are all popular by me

Nellie/Nel
Cleo
Claudia
Saffie
Hallie
Catrin

MinnieMountain · 25/11/2025 18:51

I like Cassie.

How many syllables in her surname? What letter does it end with? We took those things into account when we named DS.

FlorenceAndTheVagine · 25/11/2025 18:51

Maya is the best from your list.

Elsie
Lottie
Leni
Margot
Hazel
Violet
Lois
Nina
Pearl

JDM625 · 25/11/2025 18:50

Cass/Cassie- Prefer Cassandra then Cassie as a nn
Juno- I think of the pregnant teen film and not keen on the name
Nova- I like it as uncommon and easy to spell/pronounce. Years ago I worked with a woman called Nova. Her family had originally come from Nova Scotia so it had historical/ancestorial meaning for her.
Maya- Its ok
Remi- I think of cognac and always think its a male name
Kaia- I'm not sure I'm pronouncing it correctly in my head? Kai-a, similar sound to liar?
Kali/Callie- Sounds like a nn for something
Tess- As above nad doesn't sound like a complete name
Wren- Really like and considered myself

Other ideas: Carrie, Verda, Coral/Corallie, Leah.
