What’s people’s thoughts on the name Lainey? And also what would you hyphenate it with? For example Lainey-Rae or Lainey-rose etc

Bloody awful.

LBFseBrom · 20/11/2025 21:16

It's not a name, it comes from Elaine or Lorraine surely.

Forthelov · 20/11/2025 21:30

I’m not a fan, Lena is fab though.

VikaOlson · 20/11/2025 21:33

I know three Laineys and two of them are Lainey Rae! What is it about that combination, is there a famous Lainey Rae?

Mandarinaduck · 20/11/2025 22:03

It's pretty but I wouldn't add anything on.

VikaOlson · 20/11/2025 22:11

I really like Leni

Moreteaandchocolate · 20/11/2025 22:14

It’s such a pretty sound. I know someone called Leonie - who pronounces it LAY-uhnee, which is similar in sound and a very classy alternative, if it’s too your taste? Lainey is nice too though, just a different style - more modern and casual-sounding. I definitely wouldn’t hyphenate as that will make it sound less classy.

Can't bear anything-Rae. It looks stupid, sounds like the name of a sweaty 70 year old man in a string vest and is just a vague noise really. Lainey is OK.

I don't like it. Its a nickname, not a name

I find hyphenated names quite chavvy

I think you just stepped into the noose!

RavenhairedRachel · 21/11/2025 22:08

It sounds made up and Lainey -Rae / Rose sounds a bit trailer trash

CherryVanillaPie · 21/11/2025 22:10

I like it. It makes me think of Lainey in the Goldbergs who was lovely

visionpools · 21/11/2025 22:12

I love the name Lainey, but it always seemed too nick-namey for me to use.

Gowlett · 21/11/2025 22:13

For me it’s in the same realm as Lorelei or Krystal.

Ah no, Krystal maybe but Lorelei is classic.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 21/11/2025 22:34

It’s dreadful and hyphenated with something else, even worse. Sorry!

sanityisamyth · 21/11/2025 22:35

Why does it need to be hyphenated? Turns a nice name into something chavvy

whatawalley · 21/11/2025 23:10

I would not hyphenate it unless you want her to be a country and western singer.

RunSlowTalkFast · 21/11/2025 23:29

Makes me think of Laney Boggs from She's All That!

It doesn't sound classy at all. Even worse if you hyphenate it.

Marvelettesyouremyremedy · 21/11/2025 23:49

I've only ever met one Lainey and she was a lovely person.

Calliopespa · 22/11/2025 01:38

What about Kayleigh-Rae?

mathanxiety · 22/11/2025 02:52

It's a lovely name.

I definitely wouldn't hyphenate it.

CruCru · 22/11/2025 14:05

Honestly? It sounds more like a nickname than a proper name. I know that not all girls need to be called Charlotte / Camilla / Catherine etc but I think this goes too far the other way. There’s a place in Brighton called the North Laine.

Not a fan of hyphenated names, everyone I know with one has dropped the second part.
