Which do you prefer, husband's or mine's names?

So we both agree to only pick 2 names,
DH suggestions are : Carter and James.
While mines are Diane and Jane.
We are expecting a little girl. So his choices are a bit stupid to me.

Any thoughts

Going against the grain here but I love James for a girl.
im currently expecting a boy but if it was a girl I would use James.

Emily Jane is lovely!

Jane, Diane and Carla are also completely fine as first names, and make a pleasant change to the vowel-heavy and L sounding girls' names that are everywhere at the moment. It doesn't matter whether other MNers would choose them!

Are you in the UK? A girl called Carter or James would most certainly not “blend in anywhere”, she would get curious comments her entire life!

Assumed to be male on paper of course, if that is what he means by “blend in”.

Diana is nice, Carla is nice

James is a bit try hard for a girl, Carter is not a nice name for anyone.

He is giving me lots of reasons "she will blend in everywhere " and stuff like that.

Okey I also love Carla and Emily ( we agree on). BUT he is so so so pushy on his names.

Well speaking as someone who is a girl (an older one , but still), I would not thank my dad for giving me those names.

Yours are better by stint they are at least girls names.

Diane- I'd personally go Diana (which I love!)
Jane- much prefer as a first name but I do prefer the second 2 you've listed, Clara and Emily

When reading the names Diane and Jane I think of 60 year old women. Maybe something more modern?

OP, if you like Diane and Jane and have agreed with your DH that you will choose two of your four final names, then go for the girl’s names you like. Please don’t take any notice of what anyone else thinks - it’s a very personal decision, and your DD will become a Diane, if that’s her name. Likewise, if she ends up being an Emily. But it is for you and your DH to choose.

DH suggestions are : Carter and James. - Carter is horrible for a boy or a girl, especially a girl. The film Get Carter (1971) springs to mind. James is nice for a boy although in America it’s more acceptable as a unisex name.

While mines are Diane and Jane. - Diane - Miss Diane from Crossroads - no that’s an awful name. Jane is a nothing name. Nothing wrong with it but not terribly exciting.

Honestly of the four names provided James is the only one I like, but for a boy not a girl.

Tell your husband if he changes his name by deed poll to Tiffany or Beatrice or something equally feminine and exclusively goes by his new name (including in work and down the pub) then you can call your daughter James 🙄
