So we both agree to only pick 2 names,
DH suggestions are : Carter and James.
While mines are Diane and Jane.
We are expecting a little girl. So his choices are a bit stupid to me.

Any thoughts

Jane - Plain Jane, boring, but not terrible
Diane - horribly old fashioned, Diana is slightly better
Carter - not a fan for either sex, just a bit dull somehow
James - Lovely for a boy, don't mind it for a girl either or perhaps Jamie/Jaime for a girl? But many people will hate it!

Emily - the loveliest of all your names, but very common
Carla - Nice enough, bit 80's/90's I think though?

Like others have suggested, either your husband is confused as to what you are having or really really really wants a boy!

Figcherry · 07/11/2025 10:41

I like Diane and Jane, however I know lovely people with those names.
Carter - no.
James for a girl - no.

Jane is lovely. I don’t like Diane but I do like Diana.

Carter and James are not names for a girl.

This.

Carter and James for a girl are awful.

Blueuggboots · 07/11/2025 10:34

I know a female Jamie.

GertieLawrence · 07/11/2025 09:39

James, 100% 😂

Quokka2 · 07/11/2025 09:39

Jane is lovely. Diana much more elegant than Diane. I like PP suggestion of Dinah. Mid century names will come back, but as not currently fashionable you will get reactions.

Please don't give her a boy's name or an artisan name.

LancashireButterPie · 07/11/2025 09:26

Jane is a fab name.

Blackish · 06/11/2025 22:08

He is giving me lots of reasons "she will blend in everywhere " and stuff like that.

Okey I also love Carla and Emily ( we agree on). BUT he is so so so pushy on his names.

My first thought was the Michael Caine film, remade I think, Get Carter, could become the motto of any bully she meets!

wizzler · 07/11/2025 09:04

Don’t really like any of the names but they may be more acceptable outside the Uk

i prefer Jayne to Jane and I prefer Dinah to Diane

Carly is pretty too

ErrolTheDragon · 07/11/2025 08:34

DarkEyedSailor · 07/11/2025 07:59

Diana would be nice than Diane, but Jane is pretty.

Carter and James are ridiculous for a girl. Tell your husband to introduce himself as Susan for a while and see how people react to that before he gives his daughter a boys name.

Or rather than Susan, introduce himself as being named after a stereotypically female pre 20 century trade - not a big choice, maybe Dressmaker, Milner, Housekeeper?

DinaofCloud9 · 06/11/2025 22:09

All your names are terrible.

This. And keep getting worse

BunnyLake · 07/11/2025 08:28

BobbieTables · 06/11/2025 22:48

Jane is nice. Carter is awful, James is a boys name, I'm not keen on Diane.

Miss Diane for those old enough to remember 😁

Diana is much nicer than Diane.
I’d have Jayne over Jane to make a dull name slightly more interesting. I might be in a minority but I have never liked the name Emily, I much prefer Emma. But they are all still better by a mile than Carter and James.

I’d be wondering about my dh’s IQ if he thought those names would make a girl blend in more.

user2848502016 · 07/11/2025 08:19

What he seriously wants to call a girl James?! This is almost LTB territory 😂

I like Jane from your list, Diane is a bit middle aged lady. Diana is prettier.

Carla and Emily are also both nice - I’d probably pick Emily Jane

Or some similar sounding names:
Clara
Cara
Jenna
Jemma
Jemima
Jasmine

Caroline (Carrie)

forgotmyusername1 · 07/11/2025 08:16

Tell your husband that people will think your child is transgender if you call her a male name... that will put him off

RhododendronFlowers · 07/11/2025 08:16

Some suggestions based on the names indicated:
Hillary
Beverley
Vivien
Kerry
Lauren
Nicola
Michelle

RhododendronFlowers · 07/11/2025 08:13

How on earth will a girl called Carter or James "blend in" anywhere? I agree with pp - he may as well give her a label saying "I wanted a boy".

StewkeyBlue · 07/11/2025 08:09

Carla is lovely.

if you both like that, choose that

Carla Jane?

Carter / James for a girl will not help her blend in and they would be awful names for a girl IMO.

Do you know any small girls? Ask them if they would like their name to be James or Carter in front of him.

StewkeyBlue · 07/11/2025 08:03

James for a boy is a good name.
Jane for a girl is ok

Carter and Diane would not be for me.

DarkEyedSailor · 07/11/2025 07:59

Diana would be nice than Diane, but Jane is pretty.

Carter and James are ridiculous for a girl. Tell your husband to introduce himself as Susan for a while and see how people react to that before he gives his daughter a boys name.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 07/11/2025 07:54

They are all awful!

Enko · 07/11/2025 07:54

I quite like Carter for a girl.
Not so keen on James but its been done

Aleays disliked Jane
Diane is nice but nm Die...

I guess I am 50/50

Tiswa · 07/11/2025 07:52

wasnt there an Australian comic character who had a character called Jaime pronounced Jar may or something

Sharptonguedwoman · 07/11/2025 07:33

notatinydancer · 07/11/2025 01:21

That’s a different name.

True. Was just musing.

Sharptonguedwoman · 07/11/2025 07:32

SlashBeef · 06/11/2025 23:32

But she's not called James..

No but I knew a Jaime who was female. Pronounced Jamie. I do think James is silly though.

BCBird · 07/11/2025 07:30

Don't like any of them- sorry.
