Which to go for!?

Other suggestions welcome too… We already have a Poppy! Love the name Clover, but would never be brave enough.

Clover is a cows name for me, I'm not keen on Alice it's a bit wet and my first thought was 'Who the fuck is Alice'.
I love Freya though.

AlicePottery · 01/11/2025 12:39

I used to hate my name (Alice in Wonderland, Who the fuck is Alice), not madly keen on it even now. I taught an Alix a couple of years ago and thought it was so much nicer than Alice.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 01/11/2025 11:14

Alicia is a nice variant of Alice, although perhaps overused now.

I just see Lice but then also see Lover, but maybe that's just me being odd.

I do like Freya.

Are you sure you don't see Reya!

timoteigirl · 01/11/2025 09:04

Alice

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 01/11/2025 08:52

I like Clover - it's done well for Clover Stroud - I'd go for it if you like it, just give her a conventional middle name so she can switch if she doesn't

I love Freya though - but it became v v popular 15 or so years ago so might feel a bit dated

Alice is fine

What about Jasmine, Robin, Esther, Verity, Ida, Carys, Elsbeth

lydialucy · 01/11/2025 03:53

Alice but dont be afraid to choose Clover.

I think it is a stretch that primary school children will be aware of a 1977 rock song.

If adults of a certain age think "who the fuck is alice" in relation to a schoolchild, then they need to grow up. Especially if that person is a high school english teacher.

Touched a nerve?

@LolaBumble one more to add!
Poppy & Dahlia

@MajorMerrick , no. Like you, I've never really liked Freya, but always liked Alice.

A friend has a Freya, named when it was unusual, so it seemed OK because it was different. Now it seems really ordinary and doesn't look or sound very nice.

The comment about culture/language wasn't really directed at you.It was more that I can see it seeming dated ar some time.

Ah right, I get you now, lol

i know a 58yo Freya, she always thought her name was unusual and loved it, she’s so upset it is now common place, lol

I love Alice, I would have used it for my second child only for he was a boy!

luckylavender · 31/10/2025 14:37

Alice

MajorMerrick · 31/10/2025 14:36

HugoYorway · 31/10/2025 12:41

@MajorMerrick , I haven't really. It was nice because it was unusual, but that novelty wore off.
I feel like that about most names from other cultures/languages.
They tend to be very popular for about 10 years then soon sound tired.

I think you have replied to the wrong person, lol

I have never liked the name Freya, Alice is much nicer.

LolaBumble · 31/10/2025 12:28

Thank you all 🫶🫶 feeling more and more set on Alice! Clover is as divisive as I imagined

Poppy is lovely with both Alice and Freya.
Clover I like a little less.

Others ..
Scarlett
Indigo
Zena

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 31/10/2025 09:41

I had a guinea pig called Clover once. It definitely speaks more to me as an animal name than human.

HugoYorway · 31/10/2025 09:40

I think it is a stretch that primary school children will be aware of a 1977 rock song. It's from 1995.

There's been at least one child named Alice in the majority of classes I've taught over the last 15 years. It's much more likely to have a class with an Alice than one without. (English teacher, high school).

Also, for people of a certain age it might make them think of the song 'Alice? Alice? Who the - is Alice?'

Both names are lovely.
sorry but I associate Clover with a cow’s name

Foreverdancing · 31/10/2025 08:20

Alice is beautiful and so timeless. It’s a ‘little black dress’ type name, classic, elegant and won’t date.

I also really like Freya but I hear it a lot more so it doesn’t have as much charm imo.

CleanSkin · 31/10/2025 08:19

Dame Freya Starkwas a British explorer & travel writer who broke so many boundaries (in every way) & who lived to 100 years old. Surely enough of a reason!
