I love Stanley, and it is in the top three if we had another baby boy. Although one drawback is that first born is called Arthur, and they would therefore have the same names as the brothers in Flat Stanley.

cute for baby, stan v cool for teenager, suitably blokey for grown man

gladders · 28/08/2008 16:57

Blu - no, do not like Reggie at all....

I think flat stanley's brother was called Arthur - i think that is far nicer?

beanieb · 28/08/2008 16:57

I love it and it would be on my list.

brimfull · 28/08/2008 16:56

I'm not keen

Blu · 28/08/2008 16:54

It goes with the other new old name - Reggie.

I think it's quite sweet.

noddyholder · 28/08/2008 16:50

gladders · 28/08/2008 16:44

LOVE it! it's the only name that i have thought of since having ds that I wished I had used....

think stan for a grown up is also cool....

my mother was HORRIFIED by the idea....

mell242 · 28/08/2008 16:40

Me and my OH are calling our baby boy (due in 6 weeks) Stanley.

It's the only boys name that we could both agree on infact! We don't know any Stanley's but just loved the name and think it's different enough without being strange or odd.

Middle name will be James :-)

Tortington · 09/06/2008 01:03

TheFallenMadonna · 07/06/2008 18:28

I know three Stanleys under the age of 10. Definitely on the up.

noddyholder · 07/06/2008 18:26

love it too

Hulababy · 07/06/2008 18:25

I like a fair few old style names, but have to admit that I am not sure about Stanley personally.

edam · 07/06/2008 18:16

Think it's definitely on the way back. A few years ago I would have scoffed at the idea but now it sounds quite nice. As long as your surname isn't Accrington!

Olderbutnotwiser · 07/06/2008 18:14

love it - my DS is called Stanley Charles
not worried about if it will be OK as he gets bigger, i think it will be fine.Anyway my 16 yr old DS is called Edwin ( Ned ) and I think thats even more of an old man name but it has always suited him

AggiePanther · 07/06/2008 13:34

My late Dad's name. He died when we were all quite young, is a bit of a legend in the family so a lot of his grandsons have Stanley as a middle name (inc my DS) Also my sister had a stillborn son who she named Stanley.

So, yes, I like it for obvious reasons.

Clary, I chose James for DS as it sounds lovely and grown up but we call him Jimmy (it suits him so much at the mo) so hopefully he will stand out amongst all the other James' at school (if there is lots when he starts) It's quite a versatile name really.
