Brother for Matilda

We’re really really struggling with a boys name! We loved Matilda from the start and we don’t have a boys name we’ve had the same connection to.

Middle name will be Peter for family reasons.

so far we have:
Frederick
Oscar
Douglas (Dougie / Doug)
George
Alexander
Edward (Ted / Teddy - I do not like Ed so that puts me off a bit).
Louis

Which do you prefer? (Other suggestions welcome!)

If you go with Ted, I think Tilly and Ted is fine.

Another possibility is Mattie if Tilly hasn't caught on yet. It has an Ethan Frome vibe! Mattie and Ted I like.

Yes I like Mattie, and probably prefer Fred over Freddie. (We currently call her Mattila
the Hun at home as a joke 😂)

Someone else suggested Ned and I also quite like that!

Gerald (Gerry), Robert, or John are good sturdy names that will take the owner anywhere - David and Paul also work.

I'm never sure, but to me that has an Anglo Saxon vibe too (Thinking of William Rufus)

I like Douglas the best. They are all nice names. I like Oscar the least, it's still nice but not in the same league as the others. Philip and Hector are two names I think go well with Matilda.

Yes, I like Hector with Matilda.

For me the order would be:

Matilda and Hector
Matilda and Frederick
Matilda and Edward ( third place only because the Ted and Tilly thing might become an issue. In terms of being old Anglo-Saxon names I think they fit beautifully together)

(I never comment on these threads usually! I think Matilda’s brother deserves 3 syllables, good luck finding a name you love)

There was a thread going on about this - finding a name of the same number of syllables as the siblings. Is syllable envy really a thing?!

Edward (Ted) and Frederick (Freddie, if you wish) are my favourites and work really nicely with Matilda.

Came to say the same. Edward (Ted) and Frederick (Freddie). Both lovely classic names, not too wet or drippy, (Louis perhaps?) but not too gruff and manly (Douglas?)

George and Oscar are just too overdone and to be honest George isn't a particulary nice sound.

I also really like Alexander but am not sure sure of the pairing with Matilda?

Matilta is on our list of names for girls and we have an Edward (Ted) and a Henry.

I have a Matilda and her brother is called Gabriel (Gabe for short)
