We are due a baby boy fairly soon and we like both Ashton and Austin. Surname has two syllables also.

Looking for some outside opinions! Which name do you prefer?

Ashton is nice. Austin just makes me think of cars.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 28/09/2025 19:53

Ashton. No.

Austin. Maybe, but sounds like a fat bloke who bores on about football. (That is a lot of men, granted, but ‘Austin’ sounds worse than
most.)

Yokaiwatch · 28/09/2025 19:46

I like Austin - it feels like a modern name but with an older name vibe. Ashton is nice although I like it less than Austin but I think I only like it because I like the name Ash (like Ash Ketchum lol)

midlifeattheoasis · 28/09/2025 19:37

Both awful I’m afraid

MardyAnn · 28/09/2025 19:36

Ashton just reminds me of ash trays, my Great Gran used to call hers the Ash tin.
Austin makes me think of Ethel Austin shops.

mirrorsandlights · 28/09/2025 19:33

Neither. They sound like men’s clothing shops.

PurpleChrayn · 28/09/2025 19:31

They both sound like names of cars from the mid-1980s.

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 28/09/2025 19:29

Austin. Ashton reminds me too much of Cliff Barnes’s girlfriend Afton.

Missey85 · 28/09/2025 18:07

Austin

A bold statement. I think that would be a very good reason against using it.

I prefer Austin, personally.

Ah yes, I see I have not kept up-to-date with my celebrity news 😳 however I still like the name.

Ashton and also like Asher. Ashton Kutcher is a good namesake.

CurlewKate · 28/09/2025 07:27

Neither, I’m afraid.

JillyGiraffe · 28/09/2025 07:13

Austin!

IfHeWantedToHeWould · 27/09/2025 17:33

Ashton.

Lilithcomelightly · 26/09/2025 21:47

I like the sound of Austin better than Ashton although Ash is all right as a diminutive.
I don't think there is a diminutive for Austin but I'm sure someone will think of one.

ItalianChineseIndianMexican · 26/09/2025 21:44

Austin

Putyourfeckingsockson · 26/09/2025 21:13

Ashton is a really run down town outside Manchester. Would deffo not use for baby personally

Orphlids · 26/09/2025 20:28

Austin is great - fun, exciting. It sounds cute for a little boy, but somehow quite sexy for a grown man. Ashton just sounds like something from an American TV programme. Not so classy, I don’t think.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 26/09/2025 11:10

Austin. I don't really like either of them, but Ashton sounds like a town.

LivingTheDreamish · 25/09/2025 23:49

Ashton and also like Asher. Ashton Kutcher is a good namesake.

violetpink · 25/09/2025 22:30

Ashton

zazazooms · 25/09/2025 22:29

Peppaisrude · 25/09/2025 22:26

I really love the name Austin, but Ashton isn't bad either.

DramaAlpaca · 25/09/2025 22:25

Austin
