We are looking to give our DD2 a Cornish
name (DH's roots) but do not live England anymore, so I've no idea of what's popular in Cornwall. I currently like Tamara or Tamsin, but I've also heard Zena is Cornish but I can't find any info on the internet. Can anyone from Cornwall confirm this?

Found another ancestor called Sabina - the rest of them seem to be Ann, Catherine etc!

BigGitDad · 03/06/2008 16:00

I know someone called Tamar (Daughter) and there is a River Tamar in Cornwall I belive.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 03/06/2008 16:00

Some of these are so lovely, DH is a Catherine or Sarah kind of bloke tho... Still, got 6 months to work on him (if this one is a girl).

Choosing a name for DS was agony

Mercy · 03/06/2008 15:58

I have Cornish ancestry on my mum's side. One person was called Loveday. I'll have a look at the family tree for more names (althugh they may not be in fashion amymore!)

RhinestoneCowgirl · 03/06/2008 15:58

Not Morwenna

I think mine is not that uncommon now, although I rarely actually meet another.

joash · 03/06/2008 15:55

I think Zena is Greek.

My RL name is on this thread and I love it

ChippyMinton · 03/06/2008 15:52

Loveday is on the Cornish branch of my family tree - does anyone know anyone currently with that name?

Bunch · 03/06/2008 15:50

Morwenna is a beautiful name but then I'm biased. If you do use it, be prepared to constantly have to spell it and correct how people pronounce it. Oh, and having to explain where it comes from. But mainly people say what a beautiful name!!

I am told by a Thomasin that her name is Cornish.

scorpio1 · 02/06/2008 18:18

Of the top of my head:

Demelza
Morwenna
Kerenza
Lowenna
Tamsin
Jennifer
Morvah

Don't think Zena is Cornish, but I used to know a Zelah (but she pronounced it 'Zeh-Lah', iyswim; unlike the place-name, which is Zee-Lah)

Personal favourite, if I'd had a dd3, is Tressa (which means 3rd, apparently).

Avoid Kylie. 'Ky' is Cornish for 'dog'!

SniffyHock · 02/06/2008 18:12

try this

JRocks · 02/06/2008 18:12

Senara - the patron saint of Sennen. This is what DS would have been called if he was a girl. There's a book, called 'names for the Cornish' that we had. Unfortunately I've loaned my copy out.. It's by Christopher Bice.

Ooops. It's a Manx name which means 'Grace'. Got my friends mixed up - should have googled it first!
