Ideally out of the top 150. Not. Finding out the gender.

Already have an Ezra (wasn’t as popular at the time).

So far, I have

Calliope (Callie)
Juniper
Amara
Rosalina
Melody
Juliet (but fine like Jules)
Malin
Arizona (rogue I know, but I just love it)
Theadora (Thea)
Noelle
Celeste
Meredith

Koa
Cassius
Sonny (love, but too popular)
Rowan (same as above)
Marley
Sullivan (Sully)
Casey
Zander
Ari
Remy

I prefer softer sounding, or unisex boy’s names.

I like all of these names, but none feel like the one!

I know a lovely little boy called Rudiger, Rudi to his friends . It’s German origin meaning spear of glory or famous spear . I also knew a Kinross who was Scottish ☺️

There are still way too many of them alive… loads of 40 - 50 year olds with these names! Definitely NOT unusual…..!

Not many 50 year olds in nursery class, playgroups though 😂

MinPinSins · 17/09/2025 16:31

Also, this might be controversial, but if you want something that's not super common, I wouldn't use Theodora given the popularity of Theo. I know it's not super popular itself, but as the female version of a top #5 boys name, it feels tired in the same way in my opinion!

MinPinSins · 17/09/2025 16:29

Ignore all the posters taking the piss - Mumsnet is weirdly full of women unaware of the fact that name trends have moved on in the last 40 years.

No idea if they'll be up your street but I love Fergus, Fraser, Ira and Magnus as slightly less common boys names. I'm not great with girls.

From your list I like
Juniper, Juliet and Thea
Rowan

Do you like Robin/Robyn, unisex and not super popular?

Thank you!

I like Robin and Robyn, but I don’t like Rob, which puts me off.

Most of your suggestions are ordinary or not very nice.

Verity sounds a bit like ferrety, so Verity or Jill for a girl. A baby ferret is a kit, so Kit for a boy.

Edited

I am ok with ordinary. I didn’t ask for unique names. I just don’t want them to be one of multiple children in their class with that name.

Apart from Lauren, I think they're 60s names.

Love Amara and Juniper, Cassius and Zander (or Xander).

Athena so so pretty

Btowngirl · 17/09/2025 15:11

Our lists are so similar, we also didn’t know what we were having. We all but decided on Rowan when DD was born but it just didn’t suit her, moved to Reux and was still unsure so didn’t use it. Literally had the same thoughts with sonny and Rowan with popularity. I found I liked a lot of boys names for girls like Sydney, Stevie, Freddie (not that we did go down this line tbf). It’s quite outing so will send you her name via DM if you want it 😂

HelloHattie · 17/09/2025 15:05

I think Asa suits Ezra

Charitygirl1 · 17/09/2025 14:54

Ira, for a boy

Twoshoesnewshoes · 17/09/2025 14:52

I think juniper, Theodora and Juliet are gaining in popularity.
