As in the title . Would you use Wren for a girl or boy ?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Interesting that most people are saying girls name and yet most of those giving concrete examples of people they know say boys.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 06/09/2025 10:17

i wouldn't use it for a boy or girl. I don't like it.
The bird is small and noisy.

Aussiegold · 06/09/2025 10:15

Only know one and he's definitely a man!

Ooodelally · 06/09/2025 10:13

Jenny Wren, definitely feminine

Girl

I like the name, but the actual bird is tiny, bland, brown bird. Just something to keep in mind.

How can you say that - Wrens are such a tiny, pretty little birds!

Hairshare · 06/09/2025 10:10

Both

Moreteaandchocolate · 06/09/2025 10:09

It’s a girls name to me. I know a lovely teen girl called Wren.

Ellmau · 06/09/2025 10:01

Girls.

A boy could be Ren, perhaps short for Lorenzo or Reynold.

Arlanymor · 06/09/2025 10:00

Sounds more a female name to me. Or a kitchen name.

Kingsleadhat · 06/09/2025 10:00

On The Archers it was a boy's name

Wrens are vicious home wreckers. They puncture the eggs of other birds to boot them out of their manor.

Wow I didn’t know that. What little bastards!

Sellenis · 06/09/2025 09:53

In this case I think it is gender, @HotBathwater . There's nothing inherently sexed about names. It's gendered, as in somewhat arbitrary social rules we place on people based on their sex. If it's genuinely to do with the body (eg sport, medicine etc) then it's sex. If it's stuff like hairdos and toys, then it's gender.

Sex means bodies, gender means ideas/words/fashions/culture.

I’m well aware of what gender means. The OP is asking if it’s a boy or girl’s name. And yes, there’s nothing inherently sexed about a name.

potato08 · 06/09/2025 09:57

I'd assume a boy called "Wren: would be spelt "Ren" (footloose?)

And wrens are lovely!

DustlandFairytaleBeginning · 06/09/2025 09:54

No, its a girls name.

NewLifter · 06/09/2025 09:53

I would say girl

Only one I know of is a girl.

Strong disagree! I think they're gorgeous, understated with lovely tail stripes and they're so loud and proud too. I'd associate them with being bold despite their size... 😆 it's funny how differently we see the world!

PrivateMusic · 06/09/2025 09:48

When I hear ‘Wren’ I instantly think ‘Jenny Wren’, so it seems feminine to me.

Lifeinthepit · 06/09/2025 09:47

Dirty little Wren.

(country saying)

GeniuneWorkOfFart · 06/09/2025 09:46

The only Wren I know is a boy.

intrepidpanda · 06/09/2025 09:45

No. Its a girls name

Bumbers · 06/09/2025 09:39

Girls name
