As in the title . Would you use Wren for a girl or boy ?

I only know of one Wren and he is a boy
I would have thought it was a girl’s name

SueSheeMee · 17/09/2025 20:21

We've got 4 children named Wren at the school I work in. All are girls.

Sex. You mean sex. And it’s overwhelmingly used for girls.

No she means gender. Gender is a social construct, as are names and the meanings we attract to them. The OP is asking if the name is gender neutral.

NoelFurlong · 17/09/2025 20:18

The only one I know of is an American little boy.

YoureAMeanOneMrGrinch · 17/09/2025 20:13

I have a Wren. He is a boy.

ive had a lot of compliments on the name.

winnieanddaisy · 17/09/2025 20:03

I would always think of it as a girls name because of the saying Jenny Wren .

Pootle40 · 17/09/2025 20:01

Only one I know is a bird!

KayEmAy · 17/09/2025 20:01

I actually prefer it on a boy :)

When I hear ‘Wren’ I instantly think ‘Jenny Wren’, so it seems feminine to me.

I agree - and think the same. Though the very first time I heard it, I thought the child was called Ren ( as in Ren and Stimpy).

Girl

I like the name, but the actual bird is tiny, bland, brown bird. Just something to keep in mind.

They make a lot of noise for their size! And they're lovely bright-eyed little birds.

I went to school with a Lawrence who went by Wren. He was named after D H Lawrence and his mum was very flouncy/crazed english professor vibes though (I was OBSESSED with her as a teen Grin) so that is the kind of person I associate it with. I mostly see it as a boys name, but yes I do think it is unisex.

RuthW · 08/09/2025 18:17

Wren is a girl’s name

DurdleSnore · 07/09/2025 22:54

I know one of each, however I do think it’s feminine sounding.

Marcipix · 07/09/2025 00:20

Jenny Wren and the WRNS make it sound feminine to me.

did you particularly want a bird name? Falcon/er, Merlin, Raven?

lovemycbf · 06/09/2025 21:49

Wren is a female name

Alexandrine · 06/09/2025 19:28

Technically any nature name/word should be unisex (particularly the non-florals) but like names such as Willow, Wren has now completely gone to the girls. I have seen it spelt as Ren (which has different etymological origins) for boys.

Linenpickle · 06/09/2025 18:49

its a kitchen company

mambojambodothetango · 06/09/2025 18:47

Either

whenimnotcleaningwindows · 06/09/2025 18:45

A rather boring bird, but a female name.
Are you trying to make your child not conform to their sex or something? It's a rather odd question! If you want ideas on baby names that cover both sexes that might be better phraseology. If a man wants to be a woman he would just pick a name anyway, so if you think you may have a boy who wants to be a girl it might be best to wait to check and let them decide that themselves. They'll be a boy with with a girls name they at least like.

pictoosh · 06/09/2025 18:42

Girl's name imo.

Jay - boy
Robin - either
Wren - girl

CreepingCrone · 06/09/2025 18:41

Yes! My greyhound is called Wren, or Wrenny-Wroo, if he's being silly

FunnyOrca · 06/09/2025 18:39

If I had it on a class list, I wouldn’t assume either way.

mummysmagicmedicine · 06/09/2025 18:36

I’d use for a girl personally but I’ve met both boy and girl Wren’s and love it

Hallywally · 06/09/2025 13:42

Girl’s name. Not unisex.

housemaus · 06/09/2025 13:00

I love it, think it's a really nice name. But the only person I know called Wren is an non-binary person so to answer your question: yes, to me it is!
