... who now says she dislikes them on the grounds that are 'funny, foreign and lack depth'

Marloe -means 'by the lake'
Jensen -'james son'- not really a problem as my DH's middle name is James! lol.

Not so keen on Marloe (esp with that spelling), but love the name Jensen. I know a little boy named Jensen, and his surname begins with J too. I think it's really sweet, suits him very well and isn't at all girlie.

devonsmummy · 01/06/2008 21:50

I like both - not sure on spelling of marloe though

How about jenson - which could be shortened to sonny

Hulababy · 01/06/2008 21:23

I don't like either personally, sorry.

But - as ever - your baby, your choice.

bohemianbint · 01/06/2008 17:34

I like Jensen. But yeah, I learnt last time not to share name ideas with family...

LuckySalem · 01/06/2008 17:30

I like Jensen (esp the meaning)

We called our daughter Aaliyah and my granddad hates it but TOUGH! (he calls her ali to make it better for him)

Call him what you want.

DontCallMeBaby · 01/06/2008 17:29

You grow to like these names though - a few years ago I'd have turned up my nose at Jensen, but there is one at DD's preschool, he's a nice little lad so now I like the name.

bebespain · 01/06/2008 17:27

I taught a girl called Jensen. Her parents named her after the car
Apparently its an American one...

wheresthehamster · 01/06/2008 17:09

Milo is good. Marloe is not

Jensen too girly

findtheriver · 01/06/2008 16:36

I agree with your mum. Sorry!

cyteen · 01/06/2008 16:23

Tell your mum you're going to call him Fathom

DirtySexyMummy · 01/06/2008 14:31

yurt - inevitably a 'Jensen' will become a 'Jen'. At some point, more likely when they are older.

FrannyandZooey · 01/06/2008 14:28

I think they are both fine
Marloe looks like it is spelt wrong to me - I like marlow better
please don't tell your mum or anyone else in RL what choices you are thinking of - it is doomed to disaster!

barnstaple · 01/06/2008 14:24

I always thought Leslie and Hilary were boys names that were sometimes given to girls!

getbackinyouryurtjimjams · 01/06/2008 14:22

There's a Jensen in ds2's class. He's never been called anything but Jensen

Hmm good point- hadn't considered that- dislike female names given to boys. (always feel sorry for Leslies and Hilarys)

love the names

DirtySexyMummy · 01/06/2008 14:09

I would go so far as to suggest that website is wrong. Honestly, I don't think it is of Scottish origin. As a surname, maybe, however the surname variant of 'James' son' would more likely be 'Jameson', a common surname in Scotland.

I don't think Jensen is Scottish.

Also, you would probably have your son being known as 'Jen', would you want that?

beaniesteve · 01/06/2008 14:06

Ah - Marlowe I like, not so sure about the alternative spelling. Jensen makes me think of Jensen Button.

GryffinGirl · 01/06/2008 14:05

I'm Scottish and I've never heard anyone called Jensen! "James-son"? Really? Only ever heard of that Jensen Button racing driver person.

Choose names you like, but they get the thumbs down from me.

I have friends with a black labrador called Marlow

tissy · 01/06/2008 14:04

....well you did ask!

FWIW, I'm very anti first names that are more commonly surnames. Both of yours fit into that category!

But who cares what I think? If you like them, use them.

WheresTheAuPair · 01/06/2008 14:04

Pretty sure Jensen is not a Scottish name BTW!

AbbeyA · 01/06/2008 14:02

I am not surprised that she doesn't like them! I don't.
