Oh there was a Clementine on the Jan 2006 group Clemmy for short, v pretty.

So are you 100% sure of a boys name then dizzy we could play boys names if you like?

dizzydixies · 30/05/2008 20:39

if its not a word I think we should declare that it is now

not keen on Antonia either

think Kitty would be fine as one of our Katies is 24 and the other is 5?

No to Anastasia and Anneliese and

have a friend called Susie so wouldn't use it
Polly am not keen on - parrot or Polly Pocket
Poppy ok but dh doesn't like flowery/nature names

does nobody like Clementine !?!?!?!?
are you all being too polite to say?!?

btw, if Sweetkitty's predictions are true and its a boy this has all been a bit futile, if fun

Katherine with Kitty for short works well. Would Kitty be too close to Katie? Or Katya? I suppose it is really. I know I avoided names from my family, and that was hard, as all my cousins are older than I am, so they'd all beaten me to it.

Nina can definitely be short for Georgina (and Antonia) but I hate Antonia. I can just see her clutching her grandmother's pearls and looking down her nose at everybody! Working in a publishing house no doubt. Now don't everybody rush to tell me that you're all called Antonia.

Romilly/Romy is lovely. Bit quirkier than your dds' names though, but not a total mismatch. Romilly Street in London is a bit delapidated, but don't let that put you off! It may be regenerated any day! Think Romilly handbag by Mulberry instead.

What about Anneliese with Nancy for short. That's lovely. Anastasia? Too long imo! Nancy would really work as a nn for Anastasia though.

I love Susie, Polly and Poppy (from Susannah and Penelope). Either of those would fit really well, stylistically. Is that a word?

sweetkitty · 30/05/2008 20:25

I really like Romilly too wouldn't go with DP's bloody name though, I knew Romilly she was lovely.

dizzydixies · 30/05/2008 20:24

we have two Katies already - ffs, farking family

romilly is lovely and we honeymooned in rome too

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 30/05/2008 20:22

Caitlin - Catie would be nice or is it too -ie with Lexie

Romilly - Romy for short

dizzydixies · 30/05/2008 20:20

oohh I love both Nancy AND Nina but couldn't think what they were as longer versions iyswim

so Georgina could be georgie/gina OR nina?

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 30/05/2008 20:18

Rosemary is apparently the name of my biological mother so I don't think I want to use it

one of ella's middle names is Rose as well

not sure about christiana what about Caitlyn with Kit or Kitty as a nn?

Avalon with nn Ava

does nobody like Clementine?

I kind of heart Clementine

Athena is nice too but A same initial as Alexandra and 'a' ending same as Ella

AAARRGGHHH, this had better be a boy

OP posts:
GreenElizabeth · 30/05/2008 20:18

VS, I like Anne but I would have to use Annie or Nancy as a nn. Anne on its own is too modest.

DD, has Georgina with Gigi or Nina for short been suggested yet??

PeppermintPatty · 30/05/2008 20:18

Christina could also be shortened to Nina

GreenElizabeth · 30/05/2008 20:15

It's hard DD, every name I think of sounds a little like either Ella or Lexie.

But while I was reading a story to my dc (my brain was wandering) I thought of Rosemary with either Rosie or Romy for short. I'm not floating on a cloud when I hear Rosemary, but I think it will come back in to fashion more than it is now. It's versatile having both Rosie and Romy as potential nns.

Also, Christiana with either Chrissy, Christa or Tiana (yuck, nmsaa) for short.

Christina has that Greek vibe and goes well with both Isabella and Alexandra.

What about Athena with Thea for short?

sweetkitty · 30/05/2008 20:15

Matilda - Tilly? Ella, Lexie and Tilly?

I know what you mean though it's so bloody hard getting a name you both like and no one else has used and doesn't remind you of anyone you don't like.

My second cousin is Beth but I don't care have never met her in my life and she's a teenager so it's not like we will be bumping into her every 5 minutes.

I really like Eilidh, but Eilidh/Abbie too similar and as you said complete switch in styles.

Oh what about Anne?

dizzydixies · 30/05/2008 19:59

VS can't really have Ella, Lexie & Trixie tho

OP posts:
VictorianSqualor · 30/05/2008 19:23

I love James, I also love Susannah.

With your children's names I like....

Susannah- Susie
Rosalind- Rosa/Rosie
Marianna - Mari/anna
Elizabeth -Bessie
Beatrice - Trixie

Benjamin -Benji (Probably the next boy, if we have another one and I think Benjamin James sounds FAB)
Rufus
James
William - Will/Billy
Ted
Samuel (Sam is such a boys name)

I know what you mean about a complete switch

Gemma is too close to friends wee one Jenna - see what I mean about knowing/being related to too many people

OP posts:
GreenElizabeth · 30/05/2008 18:43

I love Lois from Eloise. Just knock of first and last letter!

Would your husband agree to Gemma or just Jemma?

Muireann is a tricky one. I wouldn't have a notion how to pronounce that. I have read it tho.

What about Marianne with Murran as a nn?? Marianne looks more comfortable next to Alexandra and Isabella.

Alexandra, Isabella and Muireann, that sounds like you had a daughter with a new partner! Is that too blunt? It is just a switch of styles.

dizzydixies · 30/05/2008 18:37

what about Luisa into Lois?

I am also in love with the name Muiranne pn Mirren but wondering if its too 'scottish/irish' next to the girls names?

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 30/05/2008 18:34

not liking
Dominic
Jeremy
Richard
Gregory
Thaddeus

my dad/brother are both Robert
nephew & godson is Benjamin
dh's best friend wee one is Jonathon

Cecelia is one of dd2's middle name so probably wouldn't use it anyway

cordelia is nice

don't like Margaret - horrible girl from uni

hadn't thought of Poppy from Penelope - tis nice but dh not keen on flowery/nature names

susannah - can't make my mind up about it

Jemima - keep suggesting it to dh who just quacks at me - it has a lovely meaning too [grr]

OP posts:
GreenElizabeth · 30/05/2008 18:25

Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. I'll comment on your names and then try and add suggestions.

Corin - I like this, but it does sound quite like a sur name to me.
Caleb - Love this one.
Roan - Iike this one. DOesn't immediately strike me as being a good match for your girls' names though.
Cassius or Cassian - I Like Cassius, and I like Caspian as discussed on this board a while ago. But not Cassian. It sounds feminine. Like Cassie-Anne. Julius is a brilliant Roman classic that matches your girls' names very well.
Jude - Quite like this. It is slightly poncey! but it's still a good name.
Reuben - Really love this one.

BoYS' names I can see with your girls. Dominic/Dom, Jeremy/Jem, Benjamin/Benjy, Jonathon/Jock or Jonty, Robert/Robbie, Richard/Richie, Gregory/Rory, Thaddeus/Teddy,Thaddy or Theo

Charlotte - nn Coco - I really completely totally love the name Coco (as Lola would say) and I love Lottie too. Not tremendously keen on Charlotte tbh, but I think the long name/short name does blend in very well.
Cordelia is a very versatile name with so many nns you mgiht like. Coco obviously, and Didi and Delia and even Celia !
Beatrice - nn Bea - I like this one. Also Bibi is lovely. Beata (pronounced BeyATa is a germanic nn option, nms tho!)
Cecelia - nn Cece - quite like this but too many Ss. Perhaps? I like Cecily though.
Olivia - nn Liv - Like it. Liv is very pretty, but it sounds a bit weak next to Lexie. Lexie and Liv. Lexie just sounds so much stronger.

Here are some more classic names with very pretty nns.

Margaret - Maggie or Greta
Penelope Poppy or Polly
Susannah Susie
Jemima Jemma

I might have more later! Are any of these suggestions on the path ?

dizzydixies · 30/05/2008 17:47

I was thinking more along the lines of Nellie the Elephant with Nell and Ella

how about Evangeline? Eve/Evie - too similar to Lexie

Lexie and Evie

I quite like Evan as a nn for it though?

Clementine? love it? hate it?

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 30/05/2008 17:44

I think that Nell and Ella are too similar, but you could shorten Penelope to Penny.

scorpio1 · 30/05/2008 17:44

Emilia - Emmy

dizzydixies · 30/05/2008 17:43

scopio I love Millie and would use Amelie or Camille in a heartbeat BUT cousin's Millie (Amelia) has just turned 1
