I have a very good Cornish friend in her 30s called Merryn. It's a lovely name, seems quite traditional celtic/gaelic.

RipMacWinkle · 06/06/2008 11:06

Oh I love Mirrin - so pretty.

Expat - I saw your names the other day. I loved Struan. DH didn't. Funny how our son has a name which rhymes but admit when I saw your girl's name I didn't know how it was pronounced. Absolutely lovely.

I heart all of expat's names (I've mentioned this on a thread before) esp her DD1. I'd love to call our DC2 (when we get PG - staying postitive!!) this if it's a DD. But spell it with an "A"

KellyKateneedsaholiday · 04/06/2008 14:15

dc3 would have been Mirren if he had been a she . hes a Ewan instead

DonutMum · 02/06/2008 09:01

It's beautiful.

Miaou · 01/06/2008 00:16

Right enough I don't know how the Mirrens I know are spelt (I think one of them is Merryn ... got one or two y's in it anyway )

frasersmummy · 31/05/2008 23:31

St Mirin (not the football spelling) is the patron saint of Paisley

I have a brownie pack in paisley and we have a lovely little girl called Mirin in the pack right now.

its a lovely name

DirtySexyMummy · 31/05/2008 23:09

Er, as in St Mirren, the football team?

expatinscotland · 31/05/2008 23:06

I hadn't realised people spelled it like Mirren, though.

But, I'm in Scotland, too .

Miaou · 31/05/2008 23:04

I know a couple of Mirrens, and am in Scotland too.

Oops meant to say when we had a DD.

Finona · 31/05/2008 02:21

Mirren was a name that we had as a possibility, but having had a DS with a Scottish Gaelic name, when we had a DS, we went with a Norse name to go with her Orcadian heritage. I do really still like Mirren though!

seb1 · 29/05/2008 22:42

No, but I know of a few.

dizzydixies · 29/05/2008 22:39

lol, I think the problem is that when we had dd1 we knew what we were going to call her and when dd2 came along I wanted Lexie so dh said ok but from Alexandra so they both have shortened versions of 'proper' names

am not sure what he'll say this time - we still have ALL our boys names as we've never had a shot to use them but the girls name list just keeps getting longer and longer

expatinscotland · 29/05/2008 22:36

and let's both hope they don't turn out to be stoppy coos rather than lovely Mirrens.

expatinscotland · 29/05/2008 22:36

So yes, Mirren is a lovely name and I think you should call your daughter that .

dizzydixies · 29/05/2008 22:35

thats a lovely story behind the name too, I like it when names have some meaning behind them as well

expatinscotland · 29/05/2008 22:33

Their names suit them well.

DD1 had no name for days. We couldn't agree and DH wanted to call her Fiona but she didn't look like one.

She was an angel baby and I was in hospital a while after a difficult delivery and then complications.

So the midwives would take her away and feed her and just walk her about.

They liked her as she was a good baby - even now she is well-liked by her teachers and carers.

Then one of the nurses said as she laid DD1 back in her cot, 'Well, I ken you've no' got a name for her but if you ask me she looks a wee . . . '

And she truly did!

She is much a Scottish Helen.

dizzydixies · 29/05/2008 22:29

expat if I've got it then dd2 also has a lovely name and all 3 will go beautifully together

sweetkitty · 29/05/2008 22:27

I love expat DD1's name as well but as I have said before too near our DD1 and the other two don't have Gaelic names.

We are sticking with the Hebrew theme co incidence really

DD1 is "fathers joy"
DD2 is "morning dew"
DD3 will be "place of figs"

I really like Mirren as well strong sounding but still pretty.

dizzydixies · 29/05/2008 22:23

I love your dd1's name and will have to work on your dd2s!!

our dd1 is Isabella after beloved great aunt but known as Ella and dd2 is Lexie which is scots for 'sparkling' but dh would only ok it as Alexandra which is fine

not sure if this is a boy or girl but will no doubt still have a list of a million names when am in labour

expatinscotland · 29/05/2008 22:20

DD1 is the Scots Gaelic for Helen.

DD2 is the Gaelic for Rose, after DH's mother's mother, his beloved 'Nana'.

There is one Struan in DD1's primary school.

It was actually suggested to me by one of the students I worked with, a lovely young lady from Ayr when I was pregnant with DD2.

dizzydixies · 29/05/2008 22:16

Struan is lovely too, I knew a Struan at uni and he was a great bloke, my friend was down to Struan and Fraser but Fraser just tipped at the post

am I allowed to ask what you're others are called or is that poor ettiquete?!?

WheresWally · 29/05/2008 22:14

I think I know your dd's names expat, it will go nicely

We didn't go for the Gaelic spelling as it would have looked a bit odd with our ds1's name!
