Baby girl names… peach?

I’m due in a few weeks with a baby girl and struggling to find a name. I’ve swapped it constantly throughout the months and just don’t like anything. I was recently set on Lena but have realised how common it actually is, which puts me off a little bit. I recently heard the name peach and absolutely love it but after reading a lot of forums people seem to think it’s silly? I know it doesn’t matter what other people think but I don’t know if it’s too out there?! Thoughts?

I have a very unusual (traditional) name and I’ve never met anyone with the same. It’s always stood me in good stead in terms of being remembered! I don’t think unusual names are a bad thing at all, but it’s not a binary choice between the most popular name available or a fruit! There are lots of beautiful and unusual names which won’t raise eyebrows.

Quite. She is also breathtakingly naive or stupid or both if she thinks no one will ever care or judge the name Peach.

Anything but naive. Just didn’t realise how horrible some people are but that’s not something I can control unfortunately.

Yes I agree, how you bring them up is what matters. No one should be judged based off their name. Glad we agree.

But people are judged by their name! You need to realise that however much you want that not to be true, it still is.

For a pony? Is it a pony you’re having? Then it’s perfect. Would work well for a cockerpoo too. Assuming you’re naming a human though, if you’re particularly keen on fruit, maybe consider Clementine or Cherry. Peach doesn’t even sound very nice, the pronunciation is too close to bitch imo. I’m biased, but I think Lena is lovely. My DD2 is Lena, short for Helena (I also had Rosalena on the shortlist, but I put that one down to hormones). In the last almost 18 years, she’s only ever come across one other, and that was spelled differently.

I hope im not having a pony as I think I’d be in trouble when she’s trying to come out in two weeks time.

'Silly' is vague and subjective. I wonder if those same employers think Punjabi names are silly? Or Israeli ones? Persian? Korean? Irish?

The reality is, there are girls these days called pretty nouns. Like Honey and Peaches and Ruby and Clementine. And also lovely adjectives, like Scarlet. Peach/Peaches is lovely - but then I've known one.

Finally someone on the same wave length 😊

Not sure why the OP even started this thread when they're being highly defensive and clearly aren't interested in what people think.

My children are adults in their 30s and extremely successful in their chosen careers, as well as having happy marriages and personal lives. I have no doubt they will continue to succeed and end up at the top level.
I brought them up to work hard and aim high, because that brings success.
If they had been interested in politics of course I'd encourage them to aim for the top.

Some employers would bin any job applications from people with silly names.

Try to think ahead.

Lena is lovely! Your original idea was the best.

Well I guess she’s already screwed then considering her last name is a Spanish double barrelled name.

In that case help the poor child by giving her a normal first name. You aren't thinking about your child at all. Does her father think Peach is a great name?

It’s not exactly a case of “who cares what anyone else thinks”, when everyone who meets her in the future will be thinking how ridiculous her name is.

I’m hoping she doesn’t surround herself/come in that much contact with the type people who would judge her based off her name.

OP posts:
Lowerback · 13/08/2025 16:18

I can think of nothing more daft that not giving your child a name you like because other people like it too. Because that is what you doing when you reject ‘popular’ names.

It’s even more daft when you stop and realise that ‘unique’ or ‘unusual’ names are the ‘popular’ trend nowadays.

Peach is not a good name imo.

So you’re telling me you would encourage your daughter to aim for prime minister? Give it a rest. She could do all sorts of wonderful things I really doubt her name will stop her. Go sad yourself.

Peach is a fruit, not an arse. If people want to make everything sexual that’s on them.

I hope you’re joking - you surely couldn’t be so cruel as to call your daughter Peach given that the Peach 🍑 also means arse when texting?

Let alone the silliness of the name.

How sad.
Most parents bring a child into the world with the view of encouraging them to aim as high as possible.
Prime Minister was just an example, what about a doctor, solicitor, teacher, actuary, called Peach, just so silly.

That’s very odd you suggested Mirabelle as my partner suggested it the other day. I’ve never heard of it

I used to stay somewhere as a child where we'd eat them off the trees in the summer!

user2848502016 · 13/08/2025 16:12

I think it’s silly and she might hate it when she’s an adult. I always think how will this name look on a CV when they’re applying for jobs?!
Peach is a cute nickname though so I would pick a more sensible name and just call her Peach as a family nickname- which could change as she grows.

Elephantangel1991 · 13/08/2025 16:10

I know a wonderful Lena I don't think it's very common at all. I'd 100% go for Lena.

I don't love Peach, not because it's too unusual, I prefer Cherry or Apple for fruit names. Or Mirabelle (a French small type of plum).
