Baby girl names… peach?

PollyD123 · 13/08/2025 15:10

I’m due in a few weeks with a baby girl and struggling to find a name. I’ve swapped it constantly throughout the months and just don’t like anything. I was recently set on Lena but have realised how common it actually is, which puts me off a little bit. I recently heard the name peach and absolutely love it but after reading a lot of forums people seem to think it’s silly? I know it doesn’t matter what other people think but I don’t know if it’s too out there?! Thoughts?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

And poor you for judging a stranger on the internet.

This doesn’t even make sense. As I said before making judgements is just part and parcel of being human. Without doing so we couldn’t make decisions or take any actions. Me reading your posts and forming an opinion of you based upon what you are saying is entirely normal. It’s something everyone does. Perhaps you should step away from this thread as you’re lashing out and getting upset and it’s not worth it, is it?

I mean firstly, I’ll do what I like and secondly maybe children should be taught not to be horrible little scrotes.

Why are you on mumsnet then asking for people's opinion on the weird-ass name you're planning on giving your child? Just decide on your own like most of us probably did 🤷‍♀️🤭😆 instead of being rude when people give you their honest opinion. I think it's a stupid name and I would feel sorry for the kid plus I'd be silently judging you for naming her that. Do you have a regular name out of interest, something normal? or something wacky? Why not get a cat and call that Peach instead?

NewBlueNoteBook · 15/08/2025 15:58

I’m sure you will be an excellent Mum OP.

Calling your child a very unusual name does require you to be fairly insouciant with regards to other people’s opinions.

Clearly responses to this thread have upset you so you might want to give a bit of thought to how you’d manage real life responses to a child named Peach.

As I mentioned before I have an unusual name and I gave my DC an unusual name but you have to be sure that you love it enough to accept the reactions that will come with it for years and years.

No, I judge the three that I teach that have an asbo.

Side note - we don't give ASBO's anymore so I doubt this is true 😂

Yes exactly, no one would remember the 6 Olivia’s who all go for the same job interview.

You need to stop making this a bigger point than it is OP.

Yes, Olivia is number 1 at the moment.

But unlike back in the day when there was a much smaller pool to choose from (How many Louise's, Jennifer's and Rachel's did I go to school with!), the pool is absolutely huge now with people choosing a much wider variety of names.

So, yes whilst Olivia is number one, there was actually only 2,700. Spread across the whole UK that really isn't that many and there could very easily be only one in a class or school year.

I just googled the same for the name Lena and there's so few they don't even hold how many were born last year! Looks like it's around Top 500.

So, basically, stop worrying about it being 'too popular'!

What you actually said was that you personally think that Jayden/Kayden sound chavvy. That seems quite judgemental.

We live in a world of emojis and the peach emoji is associated with bum, just as the aubergine one has other connotations. No one doubts that your child will be loved and cared for, but you asked for opinions on the name Peach and the majority have said that they do t like it. You have no need to listen to any opinions, but you did ask for them.

As someone with a name very few have, I know how annoying it can be. People mishear, repeat what they think it might be, forget instantly and feel able to comment on it. Your child is wanted and loved. Give her a name that has meaning.

I asked for opinions, yes. Not nasty horrible remarks about how I’m a bad parent and my child is basically being neglected.

In an ideal world you could call your baby anything and it wouldn’t matter, as you can tell from this thread we don’t live in that world.
So, what you have to ask yourself is do you want to make your child’s life easier or harder?
I actually think Peaches Geldof really suited her name but I can’t imagine a really serious or really sensible woman named Peach.

What is wrong with you - you’re coming across as really mean and nasty yourself. Whilst insisting your child will be taught not to be. Poor child in multiple respects

And poor you for judging a stranger on the internet.

I mean, if you were being accused as being neglectful and a bad parent for a name choice would you not either? Let’s not pretend. Most mothers would get defensive when strangers were commenting on their parenting. I’m far from a nasty person. Unfortunately, judging by some of these comments I can’t say the same for the majority.

Don’t like it, would lump it in same bucket as Jayden/Kayden names, sorry. If her surname is a double barrelled Spanish name why not pick a Spanish first name, there are so many beautiful Spanish girls names! I like Lena too fwiw, or Lana/Leah etc. There are a million possibilities between an out there name like Peach and boring Olivia (no offence to all the Olivias, my daughter also has a very common/top ten name).

If I has Spanish heritage I’d go for Carmen, beautiful name

LemonTreeCafe · 15/08/2025 11:08

PollyD123 · 13/08/2025 15:59

thank you everyone for your responses. I would like to think that not everyone would be as shallow to judge her on her name when she’s older and instead judge her on how kind/caring/professional (I’m hoping) she’ll be.

Edited

You’ve just judged Jayden!

I sort of get it because I secretly love Lemon for a girl but would never be brave enough to use it!

I love lemon, that would be great. Peach not so much, just feels a bit porny and tacky

Perfect, thanks for the idea

Banana, what a lovely name.

I really don't think Lena is that common? Id much rather be called Lena.

It’s apparently very common in Spain, her Spanish grandmother is friends with about five of them

Fifth person to say poor child now. My child will be loved and cared for, there will be nothing poor about her. Work on your word delivery in future.

Paloma was on my list but her Spanish father informed me that it was Spanish for pigeon and dove

Edited

Pigeons and doves are beautiful, although pigeons are much maligned. I’d like Paloma more for learning that 😊

I don’t like Peach much, but with some people choosing less traditional names for their children nowadays I hope kids will be much more accepting of the unusual ones.
