But I really really dislike the nn Vinnie, would this be enough to stop you using Vincent which I absolutely adore

Vinnie will happen if you go with Vincent, in the UK.

Frank is the nn of Francis. I'd go with Francis.

LancashireButterPie · 19/07/2025 22:40

Not fond of either, they both sound like the names of 1960s criminals.

PaLilli60 · 19/07/2025 19:35

I think it is! 😆

Emanwenym · 19/07/2025 12:00

it's definitely not gorgeous or an elegant classic.

PurBal · 19/07/2025 11:39

I like both, really like Vin (but not Vinnie). I’d probably do Frank.

PaLilli60 · 19/07/2025 09:23

Vincent is a beautiful name. I don't know what's wrong with the other posters! It's gorgeous. Elegant classic.

Moreteaandchocolate · 18/07/2025 23:49

If you don’t like Vinnie, don’t use Vincent.

I’d choose Frank.

AdaColeman · 18/07/2025 22:53

Vincent.

Pinepeak2434 · 18/07/2025 22:43

I prefer Frank. I know a Vincent who goes by Vince - never Vinny. My son has a name that can be shortened, but my husband and I have never shortened it, occasionally other people do - but if my son is asked he tells people he prefers it not to be shortened.

LucasBuck · 18/07/2025 22:38

I think there are probably just as many Vince’s as Vinnie’s (Vin seems a bit rarer). But yes, the likelihood is that once Vincent is a teenager, it will get shortened by his mates as many boys names seem to. I must admit I personally still prefer Vincent over Frank though, and nothing is guaranteed -he could well be one of the few that doesn’t get his name shortened (especially if he insists on the full name himself).

Btw: I know your pain - Edward was a top contender for DS but I hate Eddie. In the end I chose something else. But if I have a DS2 I’m still really drawn to it…

ZiggyZowie · 18/07/2025 22:36

No to either

Blueberrycake12 · 18/07/2025 22:29

Franklin is sweet. Vincent only works if you're French.

Neveranynamesleft · 18/07/2025 22:13

Neither.

Justwrong68 · 18/07/2025 22:12

Did you give birth to a milkman?

JillyGiraffe · 18/07/2025 22:11

Both of my children have common, traditional names and I absolutely hate their nickname options! I will always call them by their full names, just as my husband is called his full name by his family members and nickname by everyone else.

Go with whichever full name you prefer. I personally much prefer Frank to Vincent. Though Francis is even better - Francis nn Frank

Obviously you’re going to get people on here saying, “Are you giving birth to a sixty year old man?”
Use whichever name you prefer.

Frankie has been in the top 50 boys names for years. It’s not old fashioned any more.

DramaAlpaca · 18/07/2025 20:22

Vincent is OK but I really dislike Frank.

Emanwenym · 18/07/2025 20:15

He'll be Vince or Vinnie. Both awful.
Frank Vincent Surname is OK.

GlaikitWeeNyaff · 18/07/2025 20:12

Frank

Nevertrustacop · 18/07/2025 20:08

Vincent

Teacupover5 · 18/07/2025 20:07

My wee bro is a Frank -cool guy and cool name ❤️

rosydreams · 18/07/2025 20:05

my son is called Charles ,charlie a cute nickname .So if you dont like vinnie go for frank ,frankie a cute nickname when they are small. Then they have a smart name for as they grow

Limonades · 18/07/2025 19:59

I prefer Vincent

ColinCaterpillarsNo1Fan · 18/07/2025 19:58

Neither name would be my choice as I think they're a bit done to death. They'll be changed to Frankie or Vinnie which are Italian film mobster names.

I prefer Xavier as it's not too common and quite cool and classy.

more like an 80 year old :) My uncles are Vincent and frank, both in their late 80s. early 90s.

Regardless of that-it will be Frankie and Vinne. Sound like a pair of East end gangsters- if that's the vibe you're going for then good choice
