Theo?

I have heard people(of late)referring to it as a scally/chav/downmarket name. What are your honest thoughts? Do you think it's posh?

I think if we had decided on it for DS I'd have ended up calling him "The O", or something equally stupid.

That's just me though.

MargaretMountford · 26/05/2008 21:39

ooer - I can shorten it to Thee

Sallypoo · 26/05/2008 21:38

I think it a classic. I really like it. Nice to have a name that can't be shorterned too.

katiekkrruunncchh · 26/05/2008 21:32

I like it, great name.

cadelaide · 26/05/2008 21:31

I love it.

Wanted it for DS, DP said no.

Van Gogh's brother was Theo.

("So what?", I hear you chorus)

Sidge · 26/05/2008 21:29

It's OK.

Where I live though he'd get called Feo

Pen74 · 26/05/2008 21:28

Theo is classless. It's used by chavs and the middle classes. Most names are these days - especially if they're popular.

Theophilus P Wildebeest is a fine fellow.

dizzydixies · 26/05/2008 21:14

I like it

maybebaby35 · 26/05/2008 21:09

It's certainly quite chavvy where I live. They're all called 'Feo' by their lovely parents.

Collision · 26/05/2008 21:08

I love it!!

BarbaraWoodlouse · 26/05/2008 21:01

The Theodore I know is half Greek.

sherby · 26/05/2008 20:58

meh

MargaretMountford · 26/05/2008 20:57

mine isn't short for anything and we're not black !

MargaretMountford · 26/05/2008 20:57

I love it and am glad I chose it for ds - that was nearly 11 yrs ago and much less commonly used...I remember ILs thinking it a very London name ( in a poncy southern softie way). I loved it because of The Cosby Show where the son was called Theo and I thought yrs before having ds that it was a good name...it can be posh but also a little bit 'street' - so best of both !

LynetteScavo · 26/05/2008 20:56

It's a great name. It was posh when I was a child, but not so now. I only know one. I imagine it's getting increasingly popular.

nkf · 26/05/2008 20:55

Isn't it short for Theodore?

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/05/2008 20:55

I don't think it's at all posh.
It would make me assume (rightly or wrongly) that it was short for Theodore, and that the holder of the name was black.

edam · 26/05/2008 20:51

Theo's nice, quite gentle. Not chavvy at all.

singyswife · 26/05/2008 20:51

Yes I like it too. Very nice and unusual, I havent heard of anyone called it before (although I am familiar with the name, if that makes sense).

Lio · 26/05/2008 20:51

I like it and so do lots of others at the moment: no. 92 in the charts in 2006, up to no. 73 in 2007, so I would guess it's going to be even more popular this year.

Fanella · 26/05/2008 20:51

It's quite nice, I'd definitely say it's more posh than scally though.

stepfordwife · 26/05/2008 20:50

lovely name
