Kit is going to be a big sister. What do we name him/her?

We're expecting our second baby in January but don't plan to find out their sex until they're here. We didn't find out with our daughter Kit and LOVED the surprise.

We struggled last time with boy names. I REALLY wanted to name a boy after my favorite musician Cab Calloway in some way. While he liked our picks last time he does want more of a say this time. I feel bad about how pushy I was so I'm willing to give him more of a say. So now we both have lists because our tastes in boys' names differ.

His list (in order)
Boone
Shepherd
Hawkins "Hawk"
Hawk

I like (in order)
Abe
Gus
Clark
Dex
maybe Dexter "Dex"
Last time we agreed on Calloway "Cal" or Calvin "Cal". I would still love to use something based on Cab Calloway, but I'm thinking of suggesting it as a middle name once we agree on a few first names.

We both want something that is less unisex and more masculine for a boy. Sometimes people assume that Kit is a boy because of course. It's always people who don't know her and just see her first name. I'd like the name to be a little more old-fashioned, and I do like nicknames as given names. Do you have any suggestions that we can both agree on? Our last name starts with U so nothing starting with a F or P please.

The girls' names we like are very similar. Last time we'd had our hearts set on Charlie/Charley but then it was like EVERY other kid we ran across was "Charlie". So we started over and found something we both loved.

This time (in order) we like
Georgie
Gwen
Wynn "Winnie"
Lyle
Dell or Delta "Del"
Desi
Bee (our preferred spelling)
Birdie
Tillie
Ginger

We also considered Lennie Kathryn last time but I'm not sure if we could use Lennie this time because to me it sort of "belongs" to Kit. If that makes sense. My husband says why not because he still really likes it. What do you think?
Opinions and suggestions welcome.

Our daughter is Kit Lenore U....
Thanks

Your husband's choices are awful particularly Boone and Shepherd. Don't do that to a child.

This.

Are you in the US? I think your answer will probably influence replies

I’d definitely have your tribute to Cab Calloway tucked away as a middle name, otherwise you’ll have a Kit and Cab(oodle)😁.

Hawkins Calloway would be a brilliant name.

I love your dhs picks prefer them to yours.

Not keen on Georgie from the girls list and also think she will have people assuming she is Georgia with Georgie being the nm. Unsure if that matters to you.

I like the rest of the girls list especially Desi and Delta.

Kathryn nn Kat?

Cheeseplantandcrackers · 15/07/2025 06:29

Dexter and Winnie are nice.

Not keen on your Dh boys names and would stay away from another three letter name.

CrownCoats · 15/07/2025 06:28

Your boys names are much better than your partners. His are all surnames and sound very American.

Your girls names are almost all shortened versions of actual names. Do you know what Desi means?

If you choose Lyle everyone will assume she’s a boy (as they understandably already do with your daughter, Kit).
