Please help me pick

Please help me pick my daughter’s name. We have an Emilie and Florence. We are expecting a third daughter and I like both of names but can’t decide which to go for:

Phoebe
Matilda

I also like Eliza but might use that as a middle name. Another option I love for a middle name is Autumn…is that acceptable for a November baby? Thank you.

My cat is named Autumn and she is a November baby!

I prefer Matilda. It is quite popular as others have said, but I think Phoebe sounds a bit dated, as it was very popular probably 15-20 years ago.

Matilda

I think you can get away with autumn, at a push..

Cocktailsandcheese · 10/07/2025 17:26

I prefer Phoebe, and it works with either Eliza or Autumn as the middle name

OopsieeDaisy · 08/07/2025 23:11

Matilda is lovely and flows better with your other daughters’ names, but doesn’t work with the middle names Eliza or Autumn IMO. How about Matilda Phoebe?

LucasBuck · 08/07/2025 20:54

Matilda is nice and works well with your other daughter’s names imo. Phoebe is not my cup of tea as I’m not keen on the double “ee” sound personally. Not that you were asking for other ideas but have you considered Beatrice? (has the “bee” of Phoebe, and fits well in style with Emilie and Florence to me).

Moreteaandchocolate · 08/07/2025 20:53

Phoebe is lovely!

I like Matilda too, but I only like Tilly for a child (not an adult) and I don’t like Mattie.

mathanxiety · 08/07/2025 20:34

I'd choose Matilda on the basis that I'd like to avoid repeating the F sound of Florence (Phoebe).
Both names are great though.

Matilda Autumn would be lovely. Definitely nice for a November baby.

KayEmAy · 08/07/2025 20:26

Love Phoebe

Mailys · 08/07/2025 20:13

Autumn is a beautiful name. Call her Autumn Matilda.

ScruffMuffin · 08/07/2025 20:11

Phoebe is much nicer than Matilda, as well as being more elegant and less popular. It goes well with Autumn, which is a great name for a November baby, or October, if she arrives a bit early.

ThatSassyBrickDeer · 08/07/2025 18:10

I like all of them. Matilda sounds best with your other daughters.

Matilda Autumn is difficult to say. The first name ends in letter A and the second name starts with a letter A.

Phoebe is much nicer. Less common and very pretty.

Matilda is everywhere at the moment.

I agree, and Matilda Eliza sounds a bit awkward with the same ending sound, too. I do love Matilda though as a first name.

How about Matilda Elizabeth?

Wait until they're born....see which they suit more we did this and the one we had thought was our favourite she looked nothing like that but suited our second favourite perfectly and she is that now

Was going to suggest something similar. Our second son didn’t look like his selected name, so was named something different.

Autumn is a great middle name.

17caterpillars1mouse · 08/07/2025 14:34

Phoebe is gorgeous and Phoebe Autumn even more so.

Please not another Matilda! I can't move for Matilda's at our local playgroups.

I k ow a Florence with a sister Iona and think they are really beautiful together

shoopshoopdedoo · 08/07/2025 14:34

Like Matilda but love Phoebe!

chaiselozenges · 08/07/2025 14:28

Phoebe. Matilda is so overused and Tillie is awful. It’s also too similar to Emilie.

Phoebe.

Mumofgirls2017 · 08/07/2025 12:43

Matilda!

Hazelmaybe · 08/07/2025 12:39

Phoebe Eliza

girlmum6 · 08/07/2025 12:31

Thank you all. Appreciate the responses. Luckily she is due in November so hopefully we could get away with Autumn as a possible middle name.

Matilda too. Fits so well with your other names.

I know a gorgeous little Mati.

Pivilepivling · 08/07/2025 09:52

I like both but every other child I know is called Matilda, shortened to Tilly, which sounds awful.

ClimbingMountKilimounjaro · 08/07/2025 09:52

I vote Phoebe!

Phoebe Eliza, Phoebe Autumn, both sound great.
