It means yellow in Greek, and is pronounced Zan-thee.

Its nice but I would give her another easier to spell, easier to say name too or she will curse you forever (this is from someone who has spent what feels like a large proportion of my life telling people how to spell my name and gnashing my teeth as people say it wrong)

TsarChasm · 03/06/2008 14:47

Like it.

BellaDonna79 · 03/06/2008 14:46

Love it, had a spaniel called Xanthe when I was a teenager though so could never actually use it for my DDs as they may not have appreciated being named after a fat and rather stinky dog...

I love this name but decided that it was just too cool/arty/trendy for us!!

Best of luck

hana · 02/06/2008 20:48

bit pretentious

Hulababy · 02/06/2008 20:46

It is okay, but wouldn't be my choice TBH.

pointydog · 02/06/2008 20:43

I think it sounds a bit silly

Fillyjonk · 02/06/2008 20:34

Teuch · 23/05/2008 10:59

Don't like it - sounds like a food additive to my ears.

littlepinkpixie · 23/05/2008 10:55

Lovely name, I like Ianthe too (which I think means purple?)

harpsichordcarrier · 22/05/2008 23:22

I think it is a beautiful name

ButterflyMcQueen · 22/05/2008 23:22

always been one of my favourites

jasper · 22/05/2008 23:20

LET ME OUT OF HERE

Dreadful dreadful pretentious name

expatkat · 22/05/2008 16:46

I love it. I almost named my daughter that. That or the very Greek version, Xanthipi, which was my grandmother's name, and which shouldby traditionhave been my name, too, but my parents thought it was awful (Xanthipi that is.) As princesspeahead said, it means golden--or blonde. And I think Xanthipi means "blonde-haired one" or "blondie". So it'd not have suited me anyway as I've black hair.

toastedteacake · 22/05/2008 16:40

I think.... nice cosy looking old lady in a custard yellow cardigan and mauve/ pink/ pale blue polyester floral dress.

BTW, that is not in a bad way. I think it is a lovely, warm sounding name, a name that 'hugs'. Does that make sense?

Fennel · 22/05/2008 16:38

Most names are of foreign origin. Unless those of us from anglo-saxon stock stick with Wilfred and Ethelberta.

VictorianSqualor · 22/05/2008 16:38

Nope, use Clara.

TheProvincialLady · 22/05/2008 16:34

I don't like it. Reminds me too much of Xenia (only joking Xenia, before you send me feminist death rays)

Squack · 22/05/2008 16:32

none of my kids' names are English and I am most certainly not Chav in the least, whatever that means.

jk1 · 22/05/2008 16:11

It is a beautiful name my only issue is that when you are not from country of origin in this case greek can be bordeline chav?

But is such a pretty name

lulalullabye · 22/05/2008 15:11

I know a Xanthe and she is beautiful and a lovely person.

minster · 22/05/2008 15:07

It's lovely
