@GuineapigOlympics Yv-ON or EE-von. El-AIN or E-lain. MEE-shell or Mish-EL...

(for comparison, Janet and Janette.

KayEmAy · 30/05/2025 12:57

It's a beautiful name.

Denimrules · 30/05/2025 12:52

Treeleaf11 · 30/05/2025 12:23

I'd pronounce Yvonne as Iv-von

Yes, that's how I pronounce

Denimrules · 30/05/2025 12:51

GuineapigOlympics · 30/05/2025 12:27

I see - I wouldn't say Meeshell but I would say Eelane and Eevon

Interesting, what about Leonie? Used to get Leo-nee not Lay-o-nee and felt this was similar to Eeelane

Ddakji · 30/05/2025 12:49

DD was at school with an Eliana. No problem in pronouncing her name, which is as you describe.

I quite like it.

AdaColeman · 30/05/2025 12:46

Too similar to all the other Elli...Ail...Eile...Aeil... names that are ubiquitous at the moment, so may well become dated very quickly. It will definitely be shortened to Ellie at school.

Less eee than the East Anglian way. People named Michelle and Elaine are better examples - they got called Meeshell and Eeelane rather than Mish-shel and Elle-ayne

Treeleaf11 · 30/05/2025 12:23

I'd pronounce Yvonne as Iv-von

Denimrules · 30/05/2025 11:48

GuineapigOlympics · 30/05/2025 11:34

I am Easy Anglia born and bred and I can't think of any other way of saying Yvonne than Ee-von! How else do you say it?

ChessieFL · 30/05/2025 11:39

Yvonne could be Ee-Von with a long ee sound or more like Iv-on with a shorter sound

GuineapigOlympics · 30/05/2025 11:34

Denimrules · 30/05/2025 10:15

Hmm perhaps a north/south thing pronunciation wise. When I was at school in East Anglia, for example, people called Yvonne (of which their were several) were pronounced Eeevon by locals and the one Elaine Eeelane

HugoYorway · 30/05/2025 10:58

It's yet another Ellie name with an overload of vowels.
Ellie is OK but overused. I don't like the -arna bit at all.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 30/05/2025 10:58

Lovely!

CruCru · 30/05/2025 10:57

I like it (and would pronounce it Ellie-ah-nah) BUT some people will pronounce it Ellie-anna and there will be times when people email her with Hi Eleanor / Elena / Ellie / Liana. People are annoying and WILL get it wrong. How much will that annoy you?

Treeleaf11 · 30/05/2025 10:42

jasminnie · 30/05/2025 08:37

Isn’t it pronounced like Ariana but with Eli at the front?

As pp mentioned maybe its a north/south thing. As I've never come across the name before I wouldn't automatically prounounce it with an ar sound

ItsStillWork · 30/05/2025 10:40

A child I know is called Eliyanah, which is pronounced Eli-yar-nah.

its I did ask her mum if I was pronouncing it wrong as I was saying Eli-an-ah and she told me that it’s yar not ah as she pronounces it a Hebrew way I think she said.

mushforbrain · 30/05/2025 10:32

Eliana is a common name in Portugal, my niece is half Portuguese and is called Eliana, however it’s pronounced more like IL-ee-ah-nah over there (had to make the L capital to differentiate between the I and the L on phone)

user1492757084 · 30/05/2025 10:27

Nice.
I like Ellie more than the full name Eliana.

SendBooksAndTea · 30/05/2025 10:23

Bit silly and fussy sounding to me (personal opinion though, it's of course your choice), I guess many of her friends will end up just calling her Ellie anyway after a bit.

tsmainsqueeze · 30/05/2025 10:21

Bit of a mouthful for me.

Readytohealnow · 30/05/2025 10:19

Nice - but keep it as it is with no twee nicknames

Denimrules · 30/05/2025 10:15

Treeleaf11 · 30/05/2025 08:34

I quite like it but thought it was pronounced Ellie-Anna

jasminnie · 30/05/2025 08:32

Ellie-ah-nah

I think it’s really nice. I’d pronounce it like this too, but you’ll definitely get a variety of pronunciations so just be warned!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 30/05/2025 10:09

I know one. They say Ellie Ah na

it’s one of the many Ellie/ Elle / Evie type names that seem extremely popular.

not my cup of tea

ChessieFL · 30/05/2025 10:08

My first thought was whether it was pronounced Ellie-Anna or Ellie-Ahna so you may find you get both pronunciations.
