Help!! I cannot name my son!!

I’m having an awful time trying to choose my son’s name (he’s here already). In my list are Rowan, Roman, Rhys/Reece, Rian, Reagan, Mason, Jayden, Jamie and Corey. Problem is right now he suits Corey, but I’m also aware he won’t look cute forever and am conscious of choosing a strong name that will see him through his later years, which my daughters will. With a boy, I feel like I want his name to portray strength, handsome & cool, which is asking a lot. From searches I’ve realised I’m more drawn to soft names and gender neutral names for boys.

I’d love something unusual like my daughter’s name but with boys I just can’t seem to find that. As my daughter’s name is 3 syllables, I’d ideally like at least 2 or long sounding name eg Rhys.

can anyone share their thoughts on my list and perhaps share any other names they think I might love….

boys names are harrrrrrddddd!

Go for Corey, it's not too cutesy at all amd works for adults. Otherwise I love Roman too from your list and Jamie. I would also throw Owen in the hat (DD would have been Owen)

PanderBare · 30/05/2025 10:55

@eqpi4t2hbsnktd , Rhys is Welsh and not pronounced Reece. The Welsh version is classy, the 'Rees' version isn't.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 30/05/2025 10:51

Logan
Lorcan
Brogan
Daryll
Declan
Theodore (Teddy, Theo)
Cooper
Gregory
Christopher

@boxtop while we are Irish, we are from the North and in a mixed marriage (makes things a little more complicated), so there’s certain names we’d be okay with and some we wouldn’t. As lovely as those are, unfortunately, here they would label him as 1 religion, which we don’t really want for him. We’d rather our kids make their own choices in life. I do love them though 🫠

Rian is an Irish name. It's not the same as Ryan. It's pronounced Reen.

Ah ok...

MalcolmMoo · 30/05/2025 10:49

I’d choose Rowan, Reece/Rhys or Jamie. I think they’re good names that will age well as he grows up.

Ultimately it’s up to you and you still have time, maybe try calling him one of the names each day and she which sticks.

Rowan - Rowan Atkinson...awful
Roman - nice
Rhys/Reece - ok
Rian - Do you mean Ryan?
Reagan, Mason, Jayden, Jamie and Corey - Chav-tastic.

I like:
Jude, Alexander, Max, Jacob, Joshua, Arlo, Milo, Theo

Rian is an Irish name. It's not the same as Ryan. It's pronounced Reen.

I think you're overthinking this. You're Irish! Literally the home of boys names that fit the bill.

Oisín, Sean, Conor, Feargal, Lorcan...

ICantBeDoingWithThat · 30/05/2025 10:38

My favourite boys name atm is Colter.
Been watching a TV series, he is the main character. It rolls nicely off the tongue.

PanderBare · 30/05/2025 10:24

Jamie
Rowan

The others seem a bit 'unaspirational':
Rhys - use Reece if not Welsh
Rian - fine if you are Irish
Roman - maybe if you are Polish
Reagan - 1980s US president
Mason - too similar to May
Jayden- Jayden is dated already
Corey - doesn't seem like a name

Maero · 30/05/2025 09:58

@Flashahah I have seen this on lists but am unsure how to pronounce it differently than Rowan (rowAnn). Is it similar to the sounding of Moan but with an ‘R’?

It’s RoHan, I just love it

Toddlerteaplease · 30/05/2025 10:21

All of those are awful! Choose something classic.
James
Alexander etc.

YourDenimUser · 30/05/2025 10:20

OP @Maero if you're wanting something unusual then avoid the Rowan Roman Rohan names. Look at graphs of how their popularity has boomed last 5+ years. The fastest rising names in popularity there are pretty much. Super trendy. I didn't know any a few years ago, now know about 10 baby Roman and Rowan's, including 2 in our small nct group of 6 babies! Which makes sense when you look at the official graphs of statistics

LightCameraBitchSmile · 30/05/2025 10:16

Rohan is pronounced "Row - han"

Why not Corey with a longer name like Comoran or Cormac for when he's older?

timoteigirl · 30/05/2025 10:09

Brody / Brodie?
Cormac
Carson (being also a surname makes it seem a stronger name)
I like Cayden / Caden and how it sounds but may be too soft for your liking
Beckett
Finnegan
Grady
I also like Bellamy but no R sound so maybe too soft?
Brecken sounds cool to me
Bryant sounds strong
What about Donagh instead of Darragh?

JaneJeffer · 29/05/2025 23:23

Like your tennis name Tennis

Thanks, I thought it was quite good 😀

FiveBarGate · 30/05/2025 10:07

If you like Corey, in our Scottish school we have Callen, Brodie, Innes, Sorley, Darach

PanderBare · 30/05/2025 10:07

@Andoutcomethewolves , Not in the UK it's not.

@Theoldwoman , Regan is a girl's name. Reagan seems very American.

@Topseyt123 , Jadon is from the Bible.

@Maero , Rohan is Ro-han.

Docwillseeyounow · 30/05/2025 10:04

Rafferty
Riordan
Senan
Tadhgh
Jude
Jensen
Frankie
Lennon

wineosaurus4 · 30/05/2025 10:02

What about Connell?

Maero · 30/05/2025 09:59

@Andoutcomethewolves an you share how they pronounce Rohan please?

I agree your list is very soft and American style. They’re nice names but not ‘strong’.
Try to think of your baby as a teenager walking into school/college and introducing themselves.

I like Reece and also Pierce which is not on your list.
