None of them scream MC or WC
I know lots of WC & MC Naomis, Abbys, Lydias, Natalies and Nancys
I know 3 young Melodies (definitely WC).
Don't know any of the others.

Golidlocksandthethreeswears · 14/05/2025 06:59

Does it matter? They're all normal names with standard spellings - all totally acceptable regardless of any perceived ideas of "class"

Children are more than just their name.

For what it's worth I'd totally be judging if you were asking about names like Nayomeigh, Abbyghayle, Nat'aly or Mellow-D 😆

Maddy70 · 14/05/2025 06:58

Cady and melody (working class)
The rest middle class

EleanorReally · 14/05/2025 06:38

Lydia - great name, mc
Abigail mc
Natalie could go either way
Naomi mc
Cady not mc
Ramona not sure
Nancy not sure
Melody mc

I'd say all pretty 'classless' as in could be working or middle class. Cady is the most WC just because it's more modern sounding. I like names that don't instantly make you think of 'class' and could be from any background - it's something I like about my own children's names.

PurpleChrayn · 14/05/2025 06:28

Middle except Cady and Melody.

Naomi pronounced “Nay-oh-mi” is middle class; pronounced “Nigh-oh-mi” is working class.

IberianBlackout · 14/05/2025 06:21

Like PPs have said all fairly neutral, I known intensely WC Naomis, Abbies and even a Lydia.

Unless you’re going for something truly tragedeigh most names are fairly transferable.

I’m not British so the only thing that truly screams WC to me straight away are combos like Ella-Marie, Katie-Rose, Ella-Mae and so on. It could just be a foreign perception though.

FlatErica · 14/05/2025 06:01

Lydia and Abigail - middle class. All the others : working class.

Moreteaandchocolate · 14/05/2025 05:37

Most are pretty classless to me, only Cady seems WC and Lydia MC.

MayaPinion · 14/05/2025 03:37

I’d say all WC. Middle class names tend to be more classic:

Anna
Catherine
Rose
Elizabeth
Julia
Ellen
Florence
Sophia
Victoria
Josephine
Alexandra
Lucy

alexdgr8 · 14/05/2025 03:33

I don't really think of names in terms of class
Partly because it depends on eras.
Anyway I'd say the first 4 are OK.
The others not. Probably what you'd call lacking class.
I don't see being working class as undesirable but that's a separate issues to choosing names. Imo.

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 14/05/2025 03:24

I've come across a Ramona, I'd say all WC.

Mothership4two · 14/05/2025 03:06

Most of them are both IMO, so fairly classless. However, have never come across a Cady or Ramona IRL or a Melody other than singer Melody Gardot

TheCurious0range · 14/05/2025 02:47

I grew up firmly working class with numerous Natalies and Naomis. Cady and Melody I'd include too but more modern WC. I've also never met an Abigail who doesn't go by Abi/Abby so probably WC.
Ramona is a bit of an anomaly.
Lydia probably MC.
Nancy just reminds me of Oliver twist

StepAwayFromGoogling · 14/05/2025 02:47

MC apart from Cady, Ramona and possibly Melody, which are WC.

Delphiniumandlupins · 14/05/2025 02:47

Lydia, Nancy, Abigail, Naomi, Ramona, Natalie, Melody, Cady graded MC to WC. Cut off around Ramona/Natalie.

Blowingastorm · 14/05/2025 02:31

Nancy, Lydia and Melody are MC the rest are WC

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · 14/05/2025 02:19

I’d put Cady and Melody in WC, the rest middle.
Ramona - would assume Spanish/latin origin

Caveat - Abigail - middle; Abi/Abby working

mathanxiety · 14/05/2025 02:14

All but Cady are middle class.
