Actually very few repeats around here (NE London). In my child's large preschool I can only think of 2 x Nora/h and 2 x Sulayman/Sulaiman.
More widely Finn/Finlay/Finton very popular for boys, and Esmae for girls.

Theo definitely where we live, we know loads of them! We’ve moved area twice since having the DCs and it does seem to vary massively, we had never met a Theo before we lived here. There aren’t really any others that stand out, ie more than two in the year group.

Lionsmaine · 29/04/2025 16:01

Definitely Jude for boys. And Luca, Alfie, Oscar, Joshua. I hear Ottilie a lot for girls, and then Olivia, Isla, Mia/Maya

Penny seems to be v popular. I really don't like the name, but I guess others do. Holly, Lily, Molly, Eve/Eva are popular for girls and Leo, Alfie, Kai and Rueben for boys. Ds, 19 knows multiples of Toms, Sams, Eves and Daisy.

BarnacleBeasley · 29/04/2025 10:07

Where I live there's a little sign up in the registrar's office when you go to register your baby saying what the most popular names are. I think when I went just over a year ago it was Noah and Emily.

Lionsniffer · 29/04/2025 09:53

Lots of Oscar's lots of Alfie's, Archie's and Albies.
Amelia's Olivia's Ava's Mila's Mia's

I see ottilie mentioned a lot online at the moment but have never met one it sounds extremely posh to me but then people probably think the same about my name

We are in Wales

Reception/nursery age - Archie, Oliver, Theo, Evelyn, Isla, Lily

Babies being born in the last year or so - Geoge, Jude, Noah, Ava, Bonnie, Hallie

In my last area (still in England not wales) everyone and their mum was an Evelyn. It’s never appealed to my personally but I appreciate names are subjective.

also Bonnie is what everyone I know is calling their dogs where I am now. Friends, neighbours, DC’s friends, school mums etc and the dogs always the same biscuit coloured cocker spaniel (I think)

I'm in Melbourne and can swear this is an Ottilie-free zone! I've never heard Ottilie anywhere in Australia and don't even know how to pronounce it. However, we do have a whole lotta these round my way:

Eva, Evie, Evelyn, Ava, Eloise, Sophie, Sophia, Isabel/Isabella, Olivia, Lily, Maya, Zoe, Abigail/Abbie, Lucy, Charlotte, Emily.

Hugo, Lucas, Carey, Angus, Lachlan, Thomas, Harry, George, William, Jacob.

These names are still Top 20-ish a generation or more after they became popular, so kudos to them for longevity.

Hi 👋 I'm from Melbourne too but in Sth Gippsland now. I conccur on Ottilie... never met one..think it's pronounced O-tilly?

A few of the names you mention are here at school too. Longevity must count for something!

Meanwhile some of the poor kids' names require a straight face. "Hi Sarrgye, do you want to come over for a play date?". Pronounced ''Sarge'. Umm, ok.

BoleynMemories13 · 28/04/2025 06:48

Popularity definitely changes from area to area and can change quickly over time. You'll get a huge pocket of a certain name in your town for a few years. Then everyone starts avoiding it as they're sick of hearing it, but it'll only just be taking off elsewhere in the country.

The Maeve/Margot craze hasn't hit us yet, but I know they're currently massive elsewhere in the country. Current national top 10 names which have never really been popular around me (yet) include Ava, Amelia, Isabella, George, Henry, Theo/Theodore, Arthur. Lily is currently top 5, nationally, but I feel my area exhausted that trend about 15 years ago!

Gundogday · 28/04/2025 06:11

Teddy (for boys and dogs)
Oliver
George
Niah
Arlo

Rose /Rose
Eva/Ava
Isla
Olivis
Penelope
Robyn

When my kids were little, we moved counties and I was surprised by the difference. In old school, we had lots of Megan’s, Rhys/Reece, Callum, Sophie, Amy , in the new school, there were none. ( in England, not Wales).
