Brother for Goddess-named sisters

NameforBabyBrother · 24/04/2025 08:56

Name changed for obvious reasons. I've shot myself in the foot with this one! I have two daughters, Artemis and Juno, and now I'm expecting a boy.

The obvious choice would be a mythological or God name, but I'm struggling to find one I like.

For context:
Artemis was named due to links to Artemisia of Caria (kick ass Persian naval war commander) and the Goddess as my Middle Eastern surname has a similar meaning to "Hunter".

Juno was one of the few names we had on our list and we just felt it suited her when she was born.

Any suggestions would be appreciated! Caspar has always been on my list for a boy but it's the only name I have right now and DH is equally at a loss for ideas!

Loki sounds like a cartoon character.
Darius Guppy - criminal associate of Boris Johnson

Marcus
Caspar
Horatio ( though he was the boy, who, in a terrible in loco parentis failure, was eaten by a polar bear)

HugoYorway · 24/04/2025 14:02

@FigTreeInEurope , I think it's kitchen paper here, but Regina isn't used much as a girl's name. I like it but ...

Bourbonbonbon · 24/04/2025 13:41

I think Loki or Merlin. You need to not try hard with this one.

SingingSands · 24/04/2025 13:37

Love Orion, but the Artemis-Orion story is a not a link I'd like to have!

Outing myself prob, but my dad is Icaros and his brother Daedalus. They are Greek though. Sister is Artemis lol.

As you've got a Greek and a Roman, I'd go for something else. Odin, maybe?

OldieButBaddie · 24/04/2025 13:26

Ajax is named after the Greek mythological hero, I think you will find the name came before the product!

Sol (after Sol Invictus)
Linus

Cyrus has been on my list before, I'm half-Iranian so it's a good link to that 😊

The only issue with that is most people here will pronounce it SIGH-Russ (as in Miley) rather than Se-ROOS (which I think is the more Iranian way and sounds much nicer). Could become annoying.

@FigTreeInEurope , it isn't literally bleach, it's a literally a brand of household cleaning products.

To be fair my Italian MIL is called Regina, the best selling brand of bog roll in Italy.

MommaSmith · 24/04/2025 12:48

Zeus

Serriadh · 24/04/2025 12:46

Xerxes? Or Arthur? Kings rather than gods but strong names nonetheless. Alexander (perhaps as Xander or Lex?) is another good shout.

Jason should be the same sort of name as Juno, but it's not...

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 24/04/2025 12:40

Ajax

Or just go with a strong Greek name like Alexander.

If you want a God name, of the names mentioned so far, I like Remus (Remi for short?).and Darius.

Would Idris be an option (both Welsh and Arabic)?

You could go really left-field and look at Ancient Egyptian gods - Artemis?

But I do think that having 3 Deity names makes it seem like a very deliberate choice to give him a name that fitted the theme. As others have suggested, something that feels like a strong name like Alexander (Sacha) or Nicholas might still fit with the other names but without feeling forced.

Did you read the OP?

I quite like Mars, but I think it’s just me.

Cherrytree86 · 24/04/2025 12:13

@NameforBabyBrother

just pick a name you like Op, it doesn’t t need to match a Greek god theme. Why would it?

CurlewKate · 24/04/2025 11:54

Alexander.

FigTreeInEurope · 24/04/2025 11:48

OMG Axaj, it's literally a brand name for bleach. He'd get bullied to hell in school, and feel resentful in later life. Each to their own, but teenagers in particular really need to blend in. Respectfully, this is fairly self indulgent parenting. Think what's best for your kids, how they'll fit into different groups of different demographics, and what an unusual, easy to ridicule name will do to their self confidence.

Going down the Duw route, Iesu Mawr could work too?

I think Grist is a real surname. Smile

OldieButBaddie · 24/04/2025 11:29

I have a friend called Ajax, that might work!
Evander
Hector
Hero

RedOnyx · 24/04/2025 11:24

Marius - derived from Mars.
Fenrir - not a god but mythology related

Zeitumschaltung · 24/04/2025 11:18

Emrys
Ishmael
