What on earth is going on with name threads atm? Is there some sort of competition: 'Who can post the wierdest name and trick posters into answering as if it was a real question?'

SNoraWotzThat · 16/05/2008 09:54

I don't understand why names have to be unusual
Its the child that is unique IMHO.

I like straightforward names, no messing. Give them a nickname for quirky. So no.

seeker · 16/05/2008 09:51

Why not go the whole hog and have Peaseblossom and Mustardseed as well!

Thankyouandgoodnight · 16/05/2008 09:50

The was an 'oh dear I can feel a rethink coming upon me.....'

And that other thread about 'Moth' made me look twice - quite unusual I thought....

if the was to me..you did ask what we thought of it..was being honest!!

seeker · 16/05/2008 09:41

I know, ninedragons, but that's better than being the butt of extremely rude jokes for the rest of her life!

ninedragons · 16/05/2008 09:37

Problem with Swift is that she'd inevitably turn out to be a lovely squidgy little heffalump.

Piffle · 16/05/2008 09:25

Emer is nice Irish I think ember is dying burnt stuff... Not nice

seeker · 16/05/2008 09:24

Rowan
At a HUGE push, Swift, if it saves the poor girl from being Swallow!

nervousal · 16/05/2008 09:24

Thankyouandgoodnight · 16/05/2008 09:18

What about Willow? its similar to swallow but no rude connotations!

EssieW · 16/05/2008 09:09

I know a cat called Ember, and a girl called Ember.
Don't like it myself - suits the cat though which is a silvery grey colour.

We are after a 'soft' but solid name if that makes any sense and we both quite like names that are actually familiar words. I don't however like Amber so much and that's been my main concern with this as they are very similar. It was in one of our name books! Another name I like which we absolutely couldn't use is Swallow - for obvious reasons!

I thought that I would put it to the jury for instant and honest first reactions. I'm not so bothered about the 'dying embers' as to me embers are more 'strong and warming' things. It is similar to Amber and that's what loads of you have pointed out. Quite rightly too!

Thankyouandgoodnight what made you think of the name, what does it mean to you and where did you hear it? If you like it then you should use it.

MrsBadger · 16/05/2008 08:51

what Custy said

Hoonette · 16/05/2008 08:50

I think she will be called Emberella by every child she meets.

Thankyouandgoodnight · 16/05/2008 08:46

twentypence · 16/05/2008 08:06

It's Amber with a kiwi accent.

Don't do it - especially if your surname is cole.
