Sorry - I know it’s long, but we’re a little while off yet. The gender will be a surprise. Already have an Ezra (was less common at the time).

I don’t think many are too ‘out there’, but I appreciate definitely not to everyone’s taste.

Also absolutely open to suggestions.

We would prefer a more uncommon name, though I appreciate some I have listed are used regularly.

Zala
Melody
Callie (Calliope)
Indigo
Rosa
Mali
Athena
Honey
Talulah
Mabel
Malin
Juliet

Like
Juliet - Absolutely love, one of my favourites
Elodie - Gorgeous, this was high up on my list (I had boys)
Amara - really nice
Amaya - Really nice
Primrose - another favourite of mine, one of my favourite flowers that is in bloom everywhere right now. A lot of people hate it though.
Zala - really like, never heard it before
Callie (Calliope) - Love Callie, I think Calliope is absolutely bonkers but seems popular on Mumsnet!
Rosa - Nice, prefer Rosie
Ophelia - pretty
Adeline - really like, wasn't there a Blake Lively film called this? It was a lovely film.
Athena - Very strong name, quite a lot to live up to
Honey - I really like this, a guilty pleasure but would never have the guts to use, I think a lot of people hate it.

Dislike
Mabel - Cat/dog name
Mali - fairly popular round my way, quite nice, it is a country though.
Malin - Isn't this a type of fish?
Melody - Quirky name form the 90's, not a fan
Indigo - Bit weird, It's just a colour, not a fan.
Talulah - awful, a stripper
Oriella - weird
Juniper - Hawthorn, Blackberry...etc, this is just a plant to me.
Alanis - Morrissette, the only association, good music apart from the very irritating Ironic song.
Olympia - Very strong name, quite a lot to live up to, someone else suggested this recently and everyone was really horrible to her and told her it was a horses name :(
Celeste - awful, makes me think of a school bully
Viola - a musical instrument, might as well call her piano or violin

Like
Zander - really like
Jesse - really like but doesn't travel well in to Scotland I believe
Sonny - really like, lots of mumsnetters hate it though.
Sully - Monsters Inc. Though I do like Sullivan
Saint - bonkers, but kinda like!
Remy - ok
Cassius - alright
Sully - Monsters Inc. Though I do like Sullivan
Thierry - Henry, football, Arsenal fan, will probably get called terry or 'Enry.

Dislike
Elio - 'Ello! - awful
Koa - Koala
Rowan - I like flower names but for some reason tree names annoy me!
Matheo - naff
Ari - irritating, Essex for Harry.
Abel - Biblical, didn't he kill his brother Cain in the Bible, or his brother killed him?
Marlo - sounds like a fish again
Sully - Monsters Inc. Though I do like Sullivan
Emory - Nail file
Cody - cool, bit 90's
Kobe - awful, is it a name?
Emil - unfinished
Casper - a ghost, a bit wet
Arlen - Quite like this one.
Emrys - I struggle to say this name.
Aven - Looks completely made up
Robin - Bit naff, but ok
Teo - Looks like you have misspelled Theo
Marley - Jacob Marley from Scrooge/A Christmas Carol. And I know a very naughty Marley, he will almost certainly be in prison when he's older!

Well that's my thoughts anyway! Good luck!

Inspired from you list, I like best with Ezra ..

Zali - Zali Steggle, Olympian. ZAH-li
Olympia
Callidora
Rose
Ayesha

Elio
Cassius
Lloyd
Atlas
Bowen

Rocknrollstar · 07/04/2025 09:32

Juliet and Jesse. Some of the other names are plain awful

Alittlewordinyourear · 07/04/2025 08:44

rou-an (like ouch) or row an (like bow tie)

17caterpillars1mouse · 06/04/2025 16:42

Zala - never heard of it but not a fan

Melody - pretty, I like it but not keen on Mel and may get confused with the increasingly popular Elodie

Callie (Calliope) - like Callie but not Calliope

Indigo - ok, just not my style
Rosa - lovely but rhymes with Ezra too much for me

Mali - not a fan

Athena - not for me

Honey - eurgh no

Talulah - Prefer Tallulah spelling. I quite like it

Mabel - pretty

Malin - nice

Juliet - dont like it
Amara - nope
Juniper - gin
Amaya - nope
Alanis - OK
Olympia - too try hard
Elodie - OK, prefer Melody
Primrose - lovely
Ophelia - OK, raising in popularity if that bothers you
Oriella - meh
Adeline - love it. It would of been my sons name if he was a girl
Celeste - OK I always think of Daphne and Celeste ' oo stick you'

Viola - lovely

Elio - not a fan. Sounds like a delivery service
Koa - would get misheard as Noah constantly

Cassius - OK

Rowan - lovely. Goes very nice with Ezra

Zander - OK as a shortening of Alexander

Jesse - not a fan

Sonny - sonny Jim

Emrys - love it
Saint - God know
Aven - no
Robin - lovely

You have some really lovely names, including Ezra but they are dotted in with some really not lovely names. I meant Saint? Ezra and Saint? Think that one may be pregnancy hormones

unlikelywitch · 06/04/2025 13:18

Love Indigo, Rosa and Athena for a girl and Koa, Rowan and Matteo (not Matheo) for a boy.

Other suggestions

Zuri
Odette
Violetta
Tia
Elora
Fauna
Nora

Cove
Jude
Felix
Atlas
Sol
Kian

GreyhoundGal1 · 06/04/2025 12:37

My absolute favourites are Celeste and Casper. Would have picked them myself but both vetoed by my husband.

Absolute nos for me are Zala, Indigo, Honey, Oriella, Koa, Sonny, Saint, Aven.

I agree with someone else to eliminate any starting with E, because matching initials can be annoying so this would eliminate a few and narrow it down when you've got a lot of choice.

For boys what about Silas, Soren, Rhys, Owen, Atticus, Cedric, Sawyer, Rufus, Monty, Orlando, Magnus, Basil, Orson, Cosmo, Ambrose.

Rockmehardplace · 06/04/2025 00:13

Also, definitely not Jesse if he was to ever go to Scotland!

Rockmehardplace · 06/04/2025 00:11

Love Juliet & Abel. Also like Rose & Elodie. Also love Rowan but fir a girl not a boy
What about Bram (short for Abraham)?

SedumRoof · 05/04/2025 23:54

Malin and Thierry.

LilacPony · 05/04/2025 23:47

I would whittle it down to -

Athena
Honey
Mabel
Alanis
Adeline

Zander
Ari

Maxorias · 05/04/2025 22:13

In your girl names I like :

Celeste (also Célestine)
Indigo (but dunno if I would dare !)

Advise against :

Viola (viol means rape in several languages, I struggle with that )
Honey (this is the sort of name where people will ask "no but what's her real name ?")
Mali (makes me think of the country and while some countries are also names, this isn't one of them).
Zala (will be mistaken for Zara and mispelled)
Alanis (I think Anaïs is pretty though)
Talulah (very try hard)

In your boy names I like :

Cassius
Zander (as a shortening for Alexander)
Emrys (but a bit too Merlin-ish)
Casper (prefer Caspar)

Advise against :

Koa (makes me think of a frog)
Sonny (sounds like you couldn't be arsed to look for a name so just called your son "Son")
Emory (never seen this used as a name)
Kobe (the beef or the sportsman, don't like how it sounds regardless )
Saint (makes me think of the kardashians and it sounds try hard and pretentious)

Would suggest :

Emyr
Arlo
Marcus
Amaury
Maximilian

I’d be open to suggestions for boys names in particular.

I’m pretty uninspired by most of the names on my list. Fave is Rowan but it’s getting very popular.

Flynn
Reid
Rio
Otto
Levi
Ozzy (Osian / Oslo)
Otis
Cole
Beck
Jett
Oren
Byron
Elias
Cyrus
Soren
Lennon
Roman
Ivan
Griff
Rudy

luckybugger · 05/04/2025 22:04

Juliette or Xander would be my choices.

starrynight009 · 05/04/2025 22:01

My 2nd choice for my daughter was Elodie. Now I keep hearing it everywhere so I'm glad I didn't pick it.

The names are all so different and I'm sure we associate them all with different people but I like...

Adeline, Juliet and Melody

Robin and Rowan

From your list I like:
Rosa
Mabel
Elodie
Primrose

Rowan
Sonny
Matheo
Robin

My favourites are Rosa and Robin.

My name is on your list, it’s never on a list 😂

HundredPercentUnsure · 05/04/2025 21:32

Alittlewordinyourear · 05/04/2025 21:21

My cousin is called Rowan and people never know if it’s Row-an or Roe-an pronunciation

The pronunciation is the same to me?? Row-an (row like (a pretty pink) bow) and Roe-an (roe like doe, a deer)

HundredPercentUnsure · 05/04/2025 21:31

What about Calla, instead of Callie/Calliope?

I love Melody and Elodie but with an Ezra, probably would avoid the same initials.

Buttonknot · 05/04/2025 21:28

My favourites are:
Indigo, Rosa, Juliet, Juniper
Cassius, Rowan, Cody, Robin

DishSoap · 05/04/2025 21:27

I'm a fan of Juniper and Amaya for a girl. Rowan and Robin for a boy. Very much not a fan of the rest.

Alittlewordinyourear · 05/04/2025 21:21

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 05/04/2025 21:15

Callie / Calliope
Malin
Juliet

Jesse
Caspar
Rowan

Zala - ok but everyone will think it’s Zara
Melody - no because Mel is awful
Callie (Calliope) - love it - also Cassie/Cassia
Indigo - no because Indie is naff
Rosa - nice but overdone
Mali - what? No
Athena - lovely, becoming more popular - I do think it will become a Disney princess name and be ruined like Aurora, so I wouldn’t
Honey - it’s a bit wet, and a bit porn name
Talulah - I quite like it but it’s marnite
Mabel - it’s fine, but v popular 29 years ago
Malin - love it, also Mirren
Juliet - v nice, getting quite popular
Amara - random Disney princess. No
Juniper - small dog. No
Amaya - see amara. No
Alanis - ok, v 90s throwback
Olympia - I love it but tough to pull off
Elodie - pretty but she will be yet another Ellie
Primrose - no no no horribly wet
Ophelia - too tragic. Octavia maybe?
Oriella - see Amara. No
Adeline - ok, popular ish Adela and Adelaide are nicer
Celeste - I quite like it but it’s a brand of the pill - Cecile instead?
Viola - I like it

Elio - this is just silly
Koa - see above
Cassius - nice, but prefer Cassian
Rowan - v nice, lots of Roman/Robin/Rowan and Rorys around though
Zander - eh, it’s a bit Tim nice but dim, I’d at least give him Alexander as a full name ,
Jesse - love it
Sonny - not as a full name, sounds like you can’t be arsed
Matheo - Matthias is nicer
Ari - Ok but people will hear Harry in an estuary accent
Remy - 60 year old French bloke
Abel - nice
Marlo - smarmy
Sully - silly
Emory - high school musical, no
Cody - ditto. Corin?
Kobe - is it a kind of fish?
Emil - not a fan
Casper - nice but it’s usually Caspar in the Uk
Arlen - sounds like a minor LOR character
Emrys - only if you’re Welsh
Saint - no, he’s either a crim or a hooker

Aven - I think it’s made up but sounds like a girls name
Robin - fine but prefer it for girls
Teo - people will call him Theo
Thierry - using the French version of Terry does not alter it being a terrible name
Marley - it’s a naughty boys name

Mudkipper · 05/04/2025 21:09

The ones I would consider using from your lists are as follows:

Rosa
Athena
Juliet
Elodie
Ophelia
Oriella
Viola

Matheo
Remy
Abel
Emil
Emrys
Robin
Teo
Thierry

Of these I would say Oriella Juliet and Emil Matheo would be my choices, but are you taking care to check that names from other countries are not dated? I have a feeling Thierry is, for example.
