Baby name Felix thoughts

Do you like the boy name Felix?

It first reminded me of the cat food brand! But I am now starting to like it. It is quite a traditional name but the cat food brand might have ruined it maybe? What are your thoughts in 2025?

I love it

I like it. Easy to pronounce and spell and works on a child and adult.

A few years ago I saw this guy on the news and really liked the name.

Felix Baumgartner, an Austrian skydiver, famously jumped from a helium balloon 39 kilometers (24 miles) above Earth's surface as part of the Red Bull Stratos project, breaking the sound barrier in freefall and setting world records.

I really like Felix.

Habbyhadno · 24/03/2025 16:24

Felix is a great name, it means lucky and happy in Latin. I’ve never really thought about the cat connection, but there is a spell in Harry Potter that’s got Felix in it 😄

Christwosheds · 24/03/2025 16:19

I really like it, and the meaning is so nice.

LavenderBlue19 · 24/03/2025 16:18

I know an adult (German) Felix and think it's a great name for a man - he's an academic and is rather serious and beardy but funny, I can't even imagine him as a child.

It is quite popular at the moment, but not hugely so - only one in our primary school. It is associated with cats, but then people think Max and Rex are dog names and there are millions of them. I love it.

Calliopespa · 24/03/2025 16:10

The cat thing actually runs deeper than brand name I think, because calling a cat Felix is kind of playing on the word “ feline.”

I’m a bit divided on Felix.

It has a lovely meaning, for which reason I do like Felicity, despite the feline potential. It is also quite a classic name.

However, there are loads of them and I’m not honestly sure I love the sound of it ( it vaguely sounds like a mix of helix, fetid and fetus to me). I don’t know many who are grown men and am not sure the sweet meaning is quite as endearing on a grown man.

But there are, without doubt, far worse names so if you happen to love it, why not.

Bluelavenders · 24/03/2025 16:07

It’s a very well known brand of cat food in the UK

BootballJoy · 24/03/2025 16:06

I love the name Felix. Easily in my top 5 boys' names.

Barleysugar86 · 24/03/2025 16:06

I know a couple of young Felix's- it seems to be having a bit of a moment as an aspirational middle class sort of name.

Overthebow · 24/03/2025 16:03

I like it, but it does remind me of 🐈‍⬛

IdaGlossop · 24/03/2025 15:59

DD was at primary school with a Felix and I thought how nice a name it is.

Pomegranatemum · 24/03/2025 15:55

I like the meaning, but I can’t help thinking “cat”. On the other hand there are loads of names I’m not keen on, and I know plenty of people are bemused by my DCs’ names - you can’t please everyone. So if you like it, go for it.

Clarice99 · 24/03/2025 15:51

I like it, but I have cats and they're partial to the odd pouch of Felix, so it reminds me of cat food.

MonGrainDeSel · 24/03/2025 15:49

I really like it. There are quite a lot of them about though, if that bothers you.

Mulledjuice · 24/03/2025 15:44

I like it. I remember the cat food brand but i can't imagine that being an issue for anyone.
