Opinions on the name Piper?

Good evening!

Opinions on the name Piper?
I am not sure on a middle name or anything as of yet but I’ve recently come across the name piper and I really like it.

What’s everyone’s brutally honest opinions on the name?

It is a very pretty sounding name but to my (very traditional) ears it has a very mid-states American vibe.

if your baby is British have you considered Pippa (from Philippa, like Pip from Philip) ? Similar sound and light/unstuffy feeling to my ears.

Either way: very pretty.

Another Charmed fan here. Love it but I think that’s because I do associate it with the character. I think it’s on the same vein as Harper.

I have a 10 year old Piper. She's never once had this comment.

also has never been nicknamed 'Pips'.

I don’t really understand it as a name to be honest. Do you desperately want to give the message to the world that you hope your child grows up to play the pipes? It’s just a bit weird, and yes very American sounding.

I don’t know WHY I find this so funny but I can’t stop laughing at it…

I am Scottish as well. It IS a bit like calling your beautiful baby Trumbonist.

It’s very perky, cheerleader like Harper, Taylor etc.
It doesn’t feel like a grown up name.

There’s a (female) Piper in my extended family. I think it’s a cute name. Not one I would personally use but nice nevertheless.

It's OK? Feels very american to me, I've never met one, just come across it in American fiction books

It's a name I'd be vaguely surprised to hear the first time but would soon get used to it. I don't think its so wildly out there as to cause massive controversy or be a problem for her in later life.
I do think it sounds nice! And I'd be fine with pip as a shortening myself.

Pippa's usually short for Philippa, though.

OP, if you like Piper but aren't completely sure, what about Philippa to be known as Pippa? It's almost the same as Piper, but if she's Philippa she has options. Pip, Pippa, Philippa if she ends up a High Court judge! It's a pretty flexible name, come to think of it.
