Thinking something like Lara Margot

I personally don’t know anybody (including babies) named Lara - I was wondering how popular it is to the general public? I don’t want to call her it thinking it’s uncommon just for her to be the 5th Lara in her class!!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Beautiful name but it is steadily moving up the name charts. We had one in our NCT group two years ago.

Margot is a bit overused though.

Chunkilumptious · 09/03/2025 11:23

Really like it

TheBackupPlan · 09/03/2025 10:51

I know 2 little girls called Lara, one is 3, the other is 6 months. My friend is a teacher and had 3 Margot’s in her class last year.

I love Lara as a name, my favourite book and film is Dr Zhivago, Lara’s Theme is also lovely.

It is a re-entry though, so it's not like it's ultra modern or a newish fad which has only just broke into the top 100 for the first time. Lara has been in and out of the top 100 several times since the early 00s I think. It's usually somewhere between 75-150 it I think, so never overly popular but not rare either. The perfect mix probably.

Ah I didn’t realise it was a re-entry!

It was around 115 when I used it for my one, in the mid 2010’s. I’ve loosely tracked it’s use ever since 😊

Lara is beautiful. Much nicer than Lyra, which is very trendy right now.

I do know a few people called Lara but they're spread out through the ages:- one in their 20s, one around 18, another about 12 and another who is 5. She definitely won't be one of 5 in a class because that is an urban myth which doesn't even happen with the most popular names any more. People choose from such a wide pool of names now. The days of half a year group being called Sarah or Michael are gone.

Well. I take a class regularly that has five Freyas, and another that has six Issies.
The funniest has to be the Kaya, Taya, Maya, Bajaya, Gaia, Anaya, class.

I know a 13 year old Lara. Lovely girl. Lovely name.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 09/03/2025 07:54

I love Lara. Is a lovely easy to spell and sound name.
It's not an old name just a modern short name.
Beautiful 🤩

It’s only relatively recently entered the top 100 names, think it’s 92. So not overly used at all, but not so unusual that people are unfamiliar with it.

I think it’s a very lovely name.

I knew one who would be in her 50s now.
I prefer Laura.

Sassybooklover · 08/03/2025 22:27

It's not a name I have heard often, and I've worked in Infant/First/Junior schools for 13 years! Currently there is a Lara in a Year 3 class at the First school I work at. It's not that common.

pudha · 08/03/2025 22:25

I prefer Lila, looks and sounds prettier to me. But love Margot as a middle name.

Crikeyalmighty · 08/03/2025 22:14

Was going to call my Tom it if he was a girl- which he wasn't!! Lovely name.

Hildasstageshow · 08/03/2025 22:12

Lara is lovely. Makes me think of Dr Zhivago.

boringingoring · 08/03/2025 22:08

Also it makes me think of Mar-a-lago, sorry!

Both beautiful names individually though.

EmiliaRuusuvuori · 08/03/2025 22:07

It's lovely, I went to school with one.
She would be in her early fifties now.

boringingoring · 08/03/2025 22:06

I love both names, but wouldn't put them together because they have the same stressed vowel sound on the first syllable. I may be oversensitive to this because my name does the same!

bzarda · 08/03/2025 22:04

Lara is simple and pretty, I only know one. My 2 year old knows lots of Margots though.

I’m not too bothered about popularity of her middle name particularly, as she won’t be going by that in every day life. I’m just more looking for a name that I find pretty and that I think compliments whatever first name we go for :)

Love it! Classy & strong. DD is 20 and even in her massive school year group of 200 pupils there was only one Lara.
