Accidental name theme - continue it?

Having read your update OP, I’d definitely avoid using a name with the same letter if there isn’t a name you particularly like! I think deliberately matching initials is a bit contrived, although it’s probably fine if you just happen to love three separate names with the same initial.

It wouldn’t strike me as odd at all if two of three siblings shared the same initial.

I would choose a name with a different letter - even if you happen to love a name with the same letter.

Twice is a coincidence, three times is a theme and begins to look a bit contrived. If you ended up having more than three children altogether, you would eventually run out of names you liked with that letter and I think it looks stranger to change the letter the more times you have used it. I know of a family who have 5 children called (not their actual names but the naming pattern is the same) something like Melissa, Marie, Michael, Matthew and Ella-Rose. That looks strange to me. I also know of a family where two have the same initial and the other two don't, so more like Melissa, Marie, David and Susanna. That doesn't make ne thing they tried to be matchy and failed, it just makes me think they really liked the names Melissa, Marie, David and Susanna.

My husband and one of my son have the same initial first name and both have the same surname. However they have a different letter middle name. When he lived at home I was surprised at how many organizations including financial, NHS and government type letters omitted the middle initial and did not use the full first name.

I think you should continue the theme, and your idea of same sounds, different letters would work too.

With three children, it's very easy for an odd man out dynamic to develop, which can have ramifications for identity and family relationships that far outweigh any (unlikely) issues with post.

Pick what you like, don't try and do matching letters. People will think you're wannabe Kardashians.

And even if as a society we still continue to get post, what's to stop people using first and second initial? I'm in the US, and post is always addressed to Firstname - Middle Initial (optional) - Surname. There's no faffing around with titles and no use of just a first initial and surname.

I think the post thing is a case of living in the past. Paperless billing and bank statements are the norm now and it will be less and less likely that anyone will receive paper communications in the future.

Yeah it's a nightmare for post. We had same initials in my family and private post doesn't exist.

Just choose the name you like the best. Which may or may not have the same letter.

Same initials can be a pain in the same household when the post arrives too!

No idea if that's Hugo, Harriet, Helena, Horatio, Hercules, Hallie, Hereward, Hermione or Humphrey.

@NoctuaAthene , you don't have parcels delivered? Even I have parcels. I also get bills and things like financial statements through the post.

Hubs brother was the only one of 4 boys who didn't have a middle name. He ALWAYS felt left out, and he was a shitbag too. Like the post above, he always felt 4th best

I share alot of childcare with my Sil so our children are around each other most of the week

3 out of 4 children share a name theme eg flowers and one does not.

It causes alot of upset that they are the odd one out
As they get older I'm sure they won't mind as much but I would say stick with the same initial as the others

I have the same initial as DB1. DB2 has a different initial. It was never a problem or even discussed.

The post thing is a bit antiquated these days (and presumably even more so by the time this baby is an adult), it's quite rare for anything important to come through the post and if it does it would usually be obvious enough to anyone living in the same house who it's for. So I wouldn't let that decide for you either way.

Personally I'd just choose the name I liked best, if it happens to start with the same letter so be it but if not then that's probably slightly preferable. I think siblings called Jack, Jamie and Theo are slightly less notable than Jack, Jamie and Jake but neither is so remarkable it makes a huge difference IME

No don't deliberately look to continue this theme, it's a bit silly. Choose a name you like. If you end up with Vincent, Veronica and Sean that's absolutely fine.

My old vet had 5 children, ALL started with the same letter- I think it was J. I've seen this elsewhere, and I think its some sort of Christian, religious group.

If ALL your children started with the same letter, I'd rightly or wrongly think it might be a religious reason or just a bit odd.

As they get older, the post will be enough of a pain for the 2 you already have when addressed to ' Mr A.Smith' etc.
