I posted last night about the name Franklin.

Do you prefer Vincent? I heard it today not the nn Vinnie though. I would use Vincent / Vin day to day

Vince is also nicer than Vincent.
Nn Vinny then Vin

Disagree. Vincent in full is far nicer.

greengreyblue · 28/02/2025 06:55

Vincent is a lovely name and more classic.. Franklin is very US sounding.

TheFirstTimeEverISawYourFace · 28/02/2025 06:54

Frank and Vinnie sounds quite Eastenders.

Nonameyet1 · 28/02/2025 06:42

I liked Franklin more.
If you did have a Vincent I think people would naturally shorten it to Vinny. If you don't like Vinny that would need to be taken into consideration.

Agree

NewMarmiteJar · 27/02/2025 22:19

I love Vincent. Classy.

KittyEmK · 27/02/2025 22:16

I have a Vincent! He is known as Vince though. A lovely name, classic, European and has a bit of an edge.

sumsitupreally · 27/02/2025 22:00

sumsitupreally · 27/02/2025 22:00

I like Frankie not Franklin though and would you Francis or Francisco

Emanwenym · 27/02/2025 21:55

Nigel is a vast improvement.

Vincent is nice and Vince is cute too; reclaim it!

Also, if you like Franklin, what about Francis and Fran or Frank for short. Victor or Vic is nice too. I like these mid-century names. I even think Nigel should make a comeback 😊

Baby Nigel 😐

Umbrellah · 27/02/2025 21:29

I love Vincent! Or Vince.

lapsart · 27/02/2025 21:28

I prefer Franklin to Vincent, but I don't like Frank or Vinnie at all.

RuthW · 27/02/2025 11:11

Difficult one. I love both

Cuppachuchu · 27/02/2025 09:55

Love Vincent!
Names I've heard lately and have liked:
Miles (difficult to shorten)
Piers (or Pierce)
Leo
River (am reading Slow Horses)

User415373 · 27/02/2025 09:55

I love Vincent, how do you feel about Vince for short?

This (with the exception of the bit of having a friend called Vin!)

Emanwenym · 27/02/2025 09:25

Not keen on either if them. If you don't like Frank or Vince choose a different name.
FWIW, I think Frank is OK, Vince dreadful, and Vinnie thuggish.

justfornow1 · 27/02/2025 00:11

Vincent just reminds me of the dodgy old bloke when growing up in the 80/90s who dressed as Elvis every day without fail!

Sorry, to younger generations I'm sure it won't seem such an old man name but I very much dislike it.

Much prefer Franklin (though Frankie not Frank for a nn)

Enough4me · 26/02/2025 23:58

I'm not keen on either, but I'd go with the one that works best with your surname ot has more meaning to you (sorry they just make me think of Vinnie Jones & Grandparents friends).

hereismydog · 26/02/2025 23:54

Do you like Victor? I love it, definitely due a revival!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 26/02/2025 23:50

Vincent is very nice and surprisingly underused imo - and sounds much more classic/traditional than Franklin. Vin as a shortening is okay but I hate the sound of Vince or Vinnie personally (too close to Mince and Minnie for me).

ETA:Imo I think it can be hard to find a name you like every diminutive of though - and Vin makes perfect sense as a shortening since it’s the first syllable- so you shouldn’t have to push it too much (not like Kit for Christopher or Xander for Alexander for example instead of Chris and Alex).

MumChp · 26/02/2025 23:29

Vincent is a great name!

jackstini · 26/02/2025 23:28

I like both, but you can never guarantee nicknames - that's mostly down to school friends!

So Franklin could become Frank or Frankie, Vincent is likely to be Vin, Vince or Vinnie
