Sister for Birdy

reallynotthat · 26/02/2025 18:50

Eldest DD is Beatrix but only uses Birdie.

We want little sister to have an equal /similar name or at least one with a nickname that's on the same page.

Any ideas?

I’d look at the full name first and consider nn’s second. Imo names that are a similar style to Beatrix:

Jemima (Jem/Mimi?)
Tabitha (Kit/Kitty/Tibby?)
Juliet (Jet/Letty/Gigi?)
Romola/Romilly (Romy?)
Josephine (Effie/Gigi?)
Claudia (Kit/Kitty/Aude?)
Felicity (Flick/Fliss/Fifi?)
Verity (Vee/Vivi?)
Jessamine (Jess/Mina?)

But OP is clearly a nickname person and, by the sounds of it, a pretty 'out there' nickname person. Some families are.

Yes I understand that.

I've never understood the MN obsession with "nicknames". Probably because it's not really a thing here.

I think you'd be fine naming a baby anything and using an affectionate nick name like bean, squirt, pip, noodle, pumpkin etc. I wouldn't have thought birdie was a name given based on her name being Beatrix but just a cute family nickname.

This. Siblings can be very different. The next one might hate having a nickname like that so maybe don’t pick the name on the assumption of it being made into a nickname.
