Sister for Birdy

reallynotthat · 26/02/2025 18:50

Eldest DD is Beatrix but only uses Birdie.

We want little sister to have an equal /similar name or at least one with a nickname that's on the same page.

Any ideas?

I like Dixie, what could it be short for?

I love it too. I think it could just be Dixie! Another option is Dotty or Dolly, which should be short for Dorothy or Dorothea (and then when older she also has the option of Thea as a nickname too).

You can't do Kitty, she may predate on her sister!

Do like Katerina ( a family name ) and nn Kitty.
Agree I can't have a Kitty and a Birdy though Grin

Matilda - Tilly
Josephine - Josie

SquashedSquid · 27/02/2025 20:51

I love Marnie. Could be short for Hermione too.

I like Marigold too, but prefer Merry as a nickname, not Goldie.

Beryl berry
Matilda Tilly
Penelope penny

I love Goldie, Winnie, and Agnes.

I'd like to suggest Nessa instead of Nessie though, because Nessie is the Monster and also rhymes with 'messy'. Nessa is a real (Irish) name too.

I can't see the attraction of Marnie at all.

But Nessa is...

Birdie n Marnie

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 27/02/2025 18:57

Beatrix nn Birdie is lovely btw - but surely with a Birdie her sister has to be Kitty? 🤣(whether Christabel, Felicity, Kristen, Catrin, Claudia or Tabitha on the BC)

ETA:Of your choices, I like Winona the most (although I do automatically follow Winnie with “the Pooh” in my head). Penelope nn Penny would be my 2nd choice - less keen on the full name but Penny sounds so pretty.

I know an Aggie called Agnes. It's a v posh nickname though like Tiggy and Binky which I think are used for Alexandra - and not to everyone's taste of course! I'm not fussed on Aggie.

PrincessOfPreschool · 27/02/2025 11:02

Ps. Goldie is definitely a dog. Not too fond of Nessie either, for obvious reasons.

PrincessOfPreschool · 27/02/2025 11:01

I know a Pixie, not short for anything but could be short for Penelope

Phillipa - Pippa or Pippi
Alexandra - Lexie

Boardingschoolmumoftwo · 27/02/2025 10:35

I like the ideas on your list OP, with the exception of Juniper. It seems to be very faddy/trendy and, to my mind, very different to Beatrix.

Also loving the suggestions of:
Dorothy / Dottie
Florence / Flossie
Jemima / Mimi
Cecily / Cece

abracabarbara · 27/02/2025 08:19

Agnes - Nessie
Euphemia - Pheemie
