I know a little girl who is about six called blyth - she is very sweet, but the 1st time I heard her name I did raise my eyebrows! I now think she really suits it

LaDiDaDi · 19/05/2008 15:34

I like it but unfortunately I live too near the town Blyth (once known as drugs capital of the North East) to use it.

FrannyandZooey · 18/05/2008 20:26

oh yes I love it
I wanted it for a boy
but dp not keen and also doesn't really go with surname

Hulababy · 18/05/2008 20:25

I am not keen TBH.

But as ever - if you like it, use it.

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow · 18/05/2008 20:16

I stand by my view that any name - apart maybe from Beverley - which can be found in the AA Book of the Road is a no-no.

CarGirl · 18/05/2008 16:45

Wezzle - LOL!!!!!!!!!!! My parents are from Blyth so has a lot of happy childhood memories from there but also I lot of sadness and seeing family in poverty when Bates shut and during the strikes. I cried when I went ans saw the minehead gone and also a similar time they knocked down the old fire station and houses where my Dad was born

Hence not my choice of name!

Beverly is the American version of Beverley so perhaps Blythe is the american version of Blyth

Wezzle · 18/05/2008 16:41

I have no idea Cargirl but I went to school with a girl called Beverley Blythe

NotABanana · 18/05/2008 16:36

I think it sounds like a quaint, old fashioned name.

CarGirl · 18/05/2008 16:35

Yes but it's like the "Beverly/Beverley" they are both derived from the place Beverley aren't they?

Wezzle · 18/05/2008 16:33

The place name is 'Blyth' actually....no 'e'

CarGirl · 18/05/2008 16:24

Have you ever been to Blythe in Northumberland? I'm not sure I'd want to name my dd the same as that town, hope your surname isn't colliery

MargaretMountford · 18/05/2008 16:10

it's pronounced Blyyythe - not like knife

HonoriaGlossop · 18/05/2008 16:01

Lovely name

Really lovely

Wezzle · 18/05/2008 15:52

No it doesn't

Thecheekofsome · 18/05/2008 15:52

I think it rhymes with knives without the s

Journey · 18/05/2008 15:49

Sounds like it should be a boy's name. Rhymes with knife!

Wezzle · 18/05/2008 15:44

I really like it but because I live fairly near the place
it would put me off using it

lollipopmother · 18/05/2008 15:39

Yeah. I just don't get it. Sorry.

MargaretMountford · 18/05/2008 15:33

not harsh,it's lovely,like Blithe spirit

lollipopmother · 18/05/2008 15:32

I think it is quite a harsh name, but then I like 'pretty' names for girls and strong names for boys so I suppose I am quite traditional and boring.

SweetieDarling · 17/05/2008 00:01
